The Program

WJS contracts with governments across Canada to provide community-based services to children and families, persons with developmental disabilities, and young offenders. The continuum of services offered by WJS is designed to foster positive life changes and increase self-esteem and confidence.

The Position

Working as part of a policy team, the Policy and Research Associate will be responsible for analysis and recommendations on existing policies as well as providing advice on key issues and policies affecting business and regulatory operations and relationships with external stakeholders.

Under general supervision, assists the National management team with research, design and development of new policies for the agency, and reviews and enhances the effectiveness, operability and consistency of existing policies and procedures, ensuring consistency and compliance with overall strategic plan and applicable standards, regulations, guidelines, etc.

Scheduling:
This part-time position will work 24 hours per week, based upon an 0830-1630 work day, Tuesday through Thursday.

 

In Your Role You Will

  • Assess agency policies and procedures to determine gaps and needs.
    • Review, update and verify the contents of current policy and program documentation; draft and engage stakeholders in policy development.
    • Draft simple agreements/policy for review by legal counsel.
    • Support the National Management team with the development of quality improvement policies and procedures, performance standards, and controls.
    • Prepare and assist with, the development of agency reports.
    • Provide analysis of research findings for draft reports as required.
    • Research existing, and/or new reporting methodologies.

    Executive management support position—requires minimal physical labour but considerable exertion and stamina. Very limited or no exposure to physical risk. Some travel required.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

  • Undergraduate degree or appropriate diploma in business or equivalent. Lesser qualified candidates with suitable experience may be considered.
    • Five years experience directly related to the specified duties and responsibilities or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Required Competencies:
    • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing new strategies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of policies and best practices related to management issues.
    • Knowledge of relevant legal and governmental processes, procedures, protocols and conventions.
    • Knowledge of administrative and operational policies and procedures as applied to social service agencies and programs.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to assess agency policies and procedures to determine gaps and needs.
    • Skill in use of personal computers and related software applications.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • High level of analytical and critical thinking skills, with attention to detail.
    • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
