ROLE PURPOSE

To ensure the successful and efficient execution of payroll and compensation, including before and after administrative processes, including the onboarding and exit process.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Payroll and Compensation

  • Responsible for managing the company’s employee compensation and benefits in Dayforce
  • Respond to employee payroll and benefit inquiries
  • Ensure the smooth operation of bi-weekly payroll employee payment and explaining and implementing employees’ benefits packages
  • Understand laws and regulations pertaining to employee compensation and ensure standards are adhered to
  • Respond to employee payroll and benefit inquiries
  • Generates regular and ad hoc payroll reports as required

Health and Safety

  • Representative for the Regional Office on the Occupational Health and Safety Committee
  • Identify situations that may be unhealthy or unsafe for workers and advise on effective systems for responding to those situations
  • Update Health and Safety Handbook as necessary
  • Generate Quarterly Reports

Administration

  • Ensure all necessary onboarding and exit administration is done for employees
  • Ensure the maintenance of accurate information with regard personnel files

Other/General Duties

  • WCB Quarterly Reports
  • Filing and other administrative duties
  • Employee Reimbursements
  • As subsequently assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERTISE

  • An appropriate University degree, or combination of education and experience
  • Extensive experience, education, or specialized training in Human Resources, Communications, and/or Administrative support
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong organizational, administrative skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of community agencies, government officials, Society staff, volunteers, and clients
  • Facilitation skills, including knowledge of group dynamics and team building skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with a variety of individuals
  • Extensive experience with computers and proficiency in the use of appropriate software including the Microsoft Office suite, Windows, and Microsoft SharePoint
  • Proficiency with establishing priorities, implementing office systems, and taking initiative to identify areas of improvement or growth
  • Extensive knowledge of the John Howard Society, our Mission and Core Values, and a strong desire to be a part of the JHSLM team

EXTRA CREDIT

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner or Canadian Payroll Association Certification is preferable but not essential.
  • Experience with Ceridian Dayforce or other payroll systems is an asset
  • 1 to 2 years of payroll experience.
  • Experience working in a non‐profit environment with diverse stakeholders and clients will be considered an asset.
  • A current Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record review
  • Familiarity with working within a collective agreement framework
  • Working towards CPHR preferred

COMPENSATION

Annual Salary will be negotiated based on experience and qualifications. This role will also be eligible for the Society’s comprehensive Management Benefits Package.
