The Role

 

As one of two Associate Program Directors, you will be responsible for the management of Open Door Group's employment services centres in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. You will lead a team of approximately 15 staff and are the key person responsible for supporting and leading the team in the delivery of employment services while ensuring the high-quality customer service standards and client engagement.

You will also maintain and build relationships with the Downtown Eastside community and with Open Door Group's funding partners. 

Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside is well known as an area facing complex health, social and economic challenges -  it is also an area regarded for its strong community resilience, cultural heritage, and diversity. In this role, you will provide leadership through example in providing accessible, respectful, and person-focused services.

While regular working hours generally fall between Monday and Friday, as with all management positions at Open Door Group, candidates must be willing to work flexible hours when necessary, including evening and weekends.  Travel within BC may be required.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operations: Oversight of Open Door Group’s Downtown Eastside Employment Services Centre.
  • Team Management and Development: Through a coaching culture, provide day-to-day support to staff in the following areas: career development, learning, marketing and sales, resulting in positive engagement and program outcomes.  Ensure accountability for individual and organizational performance standards among team members. 
  • Program Management: Lead the performance management process, measuring and evaluating programs against contract requirements and annual goals. Provide leadership and modelling in best practices interventions in working with a diverse group of clients.
  • Build and Maintain Partnerships: Participate in engagement strategies that build on Open Door Group’s partnerships with government, referral agencies, community members and employers.  Participate in marketing strategies that drive business (referrals, community and job placements) to Open Door Group’s programs and services. 
  • Reporting and Evaluation: Keep the Director of Employment and Training informed of the day-to-day operations and of the status of established goals. 

 

What We're Looking For

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human/Social Service or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution; and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and the use of a personal vehicle during working hours.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years direct service experience in career development, with experience working with people in employment services or a social service setting;
  • A proven track record of exceeding goals and have a triple-bottom-line orientation;
  • Experience balancing program delivery within an annual budget;
  • Experience developing programs, staff, and processes to ensure the organization operations smoothly;
  • Supervisory experience.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of career development and/or learning theories and techniques;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the BC labour market;
  • Advanced MS Office skills;
  • Evidenced ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, critical thinking, experience and judgement;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of staff and stakeholders.
