OVERVIEW             

 

Chimo Community Services is accepting applications for the position of Executive Director in Richmond, BC. The Executive Director provides overall leadership to advance Chimo’s strategic and operational direction, workplace culture, and stakeholder relationships. The Executive Director is also a high-profile community leader, advocating to stakeholders, governments, donors and the media to advance the Chimo’s vision, mission and strategic priorities.

The Executive Director leads the organization and is accountable for all facets of its operations and activities. This is a high-profile, demanding role that requires exceptional business leadership combined with a passionate commitment to advancing the aims of an organization dedicated to promoting justice and addressing violence by fostering and providing quality, integrated services, education and housing programs designed to inspire well-being and healing for people in crisis.  The scope of the Executive Director’s role encompasses the management of the organization’s employees, operational budgets, contracts, volunteers and community relationships.

 

The complexity of this position is in the diversity of the leadership role, and its political and advocacy requirements.

 

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

 

Chimo Community Services is a non-profit organization serving people in crisis, transition and through education. Chimo prevents tragedies and saves lives by strengthening individuals, families, and communities. Chimo connects people with needed community resources and builds bridges of understanding.

 

Through nine program areas, Chimo provides diverse services from community building to prevention, from individual crisis support to advocacy, and from peer support to education. Chimo engages in collaborative community planning and develops innovative resources to address emerging needs. 

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Executive Director is accountable for the following:

  • Overall strategic leadership and day-to-day operational management of all aspects of the Society;
  • Leading fund development plans to realize Chimo’s diverse programming goals;
  • Advancing a positive workplace culture that is consistent with the Chimo’s vision, mission and values;
  • Cultivating and maintaining effective partnerships with stakeholders, governments, donors, media, and other service agencies;
  • Building community partnerships and acting as Chimo’s principal spokesperson and community ambassador to advance its vision, mission and mandate; and
  • Building and maintaining a professional and collaborative relationship with the volunteer Board of Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • 5 or more years of progressive management experience in a non-profit organization.
  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/voluntary organizations.
  • Knowledge of Government Funding and negotiations.
  • Knowledge of Crisis Intervention issues and strategies.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies.
  • Commitment to cultural competency and experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds/cultures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, volunteers and community organizations. 

Experience, Training, Certification and Education:

  • Undergraduate degree required, Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Experience working in a non-profit society.
  • Experience working and managing in a unionized environment.
  • Experience working with advocacy, new immigrants, crisis management, transitional housing, volunteers and community engagement.
  • Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record Search.

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

This position works in an office environment and at various sites. The standard work week is 35 hours and additional evening, weekends, and overtime hours as needed to accommodate activities such as Board meetings, on-call for essential services, and representing the organization at public events.
 

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors.
