Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking someone who wants to make a difference and has a passion for supporting individuals who have experienced trauma. A good fit for our agency is a self-directed, engaging and empathetic Clinical Counselor who has clear knowledge, experience and understanding of trauma as it relates to the experience of a child, youth or family. We are looking for someone who can function independently yet also interface well with our Clinical Manager who oversees the program. This position will provide comprehensive clinical counselling, assessment, and psychotherapy to children, youth who have been affected by sexual abuse and to children under the age of 12 with sexual behavior issues. This position will also support our clinical services through intake, initial assessment, and waitlist prioritizing.

HOURS OF WORK:                        20hrs/wk (flexible schedule, providing some evenings as necessary)

SALARY RANGE:                           $32.17-35.75

  • Provides comprehensive clinical counselling and psychotherapy to children, youth and families affected by sexual abuse or sexualized behaviors, utilizing a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques.
  • Interviews clients to gather case history information. Assesses profound social, psychological, emotional and/ behavioral issues affecting clients. Identifies core areas of concern to be addressed by clinical counseling.
  • Identifies, assesses and monitors client’s needs in conjunction with caregivers and/or other service providers.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans and interventions.
  • Provides follow-up support to clients after the end of therapy/treatment. Monitors and evaluates clients functioning and interaction with family, friends and in the community. Advises other professionals involved with client’s case where further evaluation or more intensive treatment is required.
  • Provides consultation to those working with client cases (social workers, probation officers, other organization staff, and professionals.
  • Provides required reports on client’s behavior and progress. Maintains clinical records indicating the nature and duration of treatment.
  • Maintains waitlist, monthly reporting and statistical requirements as needed.
  • Assesses referrals by gathering information, determining eligibility, service priorities and providing appropriate additional referral services as needed.




  • Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work or a related fie
  • Two (2) years recent related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Specialization in sexual abuse and trauma treatment through basic training, continuing education or clinical experience.
  • Direct service delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community based services and related provincial and community support service systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant formal counseling, psychotherapy and assessment techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma, sexual abuse and sexualized behavior issues.


  • Proficient in comprehensive screening and assessment practices using established standardized measures and approaches.
  • Well developed interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient teaching skills.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills
  • Must possess a valid BC class 5 Driver’s license, have a reliable vehicle, business insurance and drivers abstract review. (mileage paid for work use)
  • Must possess a working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Software.
  • Criminal Record Check
