KidsAbility is currently searching a team oriented, organizational focused individual to add to our Human Resources team in the capacity of Health and Safety Coordinator.  As a key member of the Human Resources Department you will be working closely with the Human Resources team, the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), the Leadership Team and all other staff members, while reporting to the Manager of Human Resources, with a dotted line into the Facilities department.

 

The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the Health and Safety Program at KidsAbility.  In this capacity the Health and Safety Coordinator will act as a resource to all individuals within the organization. It is the responsibility of the Health and Safety Coordinator to demonstrate continuous improvement of the Health and Safety program by implementing the best practices and legislative requirements given at the time frame.   This role will support the Health and Safety program at all KidsAbility centres in the Waterloo-Wellington region.

 

 

The Health and Safety Coordinator key responsibilities include:

 

  • Provide guidance, developing, planning and implementation of the Health and Safety program and policy within KidsAbility
  • Compliant with all Health and Safety and industry legislation
  • Be a resource and provide guidance to the JHSC
  • Attend Joint Health and Safety meetings and act as a resource to the committee
  • Provide necessary information to the JHSC to allow them to make an informed decision
  • Act as liaison between the JHSC and Leadership
  • Provide the JHSC with information from Leadership with respect to recommendations that have been made by the JHSC
  • Provides information from the JHSC to leadership for action and recommendation
  • Develop, provide or schedule required Health and Safety training for the staff at large when it is legislated. Such as: WHMIS, Supervisor Training, Health Safety and the Law, etc.
  • Track training initiatives to ensure that the necessary records have been kept
  • Coordinate and implement the Emergency Planning, working with the Fire Rescue team in the area to approve the Fire Safety Plan
  • Ensure that all staff, volunteers and clients are aware of the Emergency Plans via training and postings
  • Conduct Accident Investigations with the JHSC
  • Ensure that all investigations determine root causes to eliminate hazards within the work place
  • Coordinate WSIB claims and return to work planning with individuals injured at work or who may have experienced an occupational illness including WSIB reporting, modified work plans, Physical Demands Analysis
  • Provides leadership and staff with advice, clear direction and tangible support on the implementation and application of both voluntary and legislated systems and tools
  • Report to Leadership statistics on accidents, incidents, near misses and additional information if requested
  • Establish and maintain professional and constructive relations with peers, staff and leadership, Ministry of Labour, WSIB and Respective Fire Departments and Public Health agencies
  • Work with professional associations to maintain a current level of legislation and best practices pertaining to the KidsAbility centers
  • Provide Ergonomic Support for all staff within each Centre with respect to work station set up, job function and possible repetitive strain issues.
  • Follow up on concerns relating to Industrial Hygiene within the workplaces and coordinates all Hygiene testing and works with Facilities to implement recommended changes
  • Develop, implement and evaluate Infection Control measures within the centers to ensure best practices are being practiced by staff
  • Participates in quality assurance assignments as requested e.g.) FMEA, Accreditation, Risk Analysis.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a health and safety related discipline
  • CRSP designation is an asset
  • Must be familiar and current with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
  • Trained and experienced in providing ergonomic assessments and recommendations
  • Minimum of 3 to 4 years’ experience in a health and safety coordinator position is a requirement
  • Past experience working within a health care facility an asset
  • Past experience working within a unionized environment an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
