We are recruiting an experienced, energetic and fun professional to join our team at the DCLS Resource Centre in the full-time position of HR Assistant. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone with a positive attitude who is looking to grow their career and enjoys variety and an active pace. The HR Assistant reports to the HR Manager and works closely with managers and staff teams.


Key Accountabilities

  • Serves as first point of contact for HR Inquiries for management, staff and external parties;
  • Works with HR manager, to provide advice and ensure adherence on: Performance Management; Employee Relations; Work flow, staff capacity and change processes;
  • Responsible for full cycle recruiting includes working with supervisors advising on recruiting and selection strategies; posting job ads; conducting interviews and reference checks; preparing employment letters; and on-boarding of new employees;
  • Prepares reports; HR metrics & Health & Safety reports along with minutes from Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) and HR Team meetings;
  • Works on HR programs and systems and various projects including the planning and execution of DCLS events, employee recognition; summer students and practicum students;
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date confidential HR records and files;
  • Maintains all leave records including WorkSafeBC absence and sick leaves;
  • Participates in Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and Worksafe Certificate of Recognition program;
  • Supervision of the Receptionist and overall management of Administration Services and Resource Centre;
  • Participates on Social and other committees, as required;
  • Works with the finance team to ensure changes are executed in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Performs other related duties in keeping with the purpose and accountabilities of the job.



  • 3 to 5 years of related experience in Human Resources in a fast-paced environment;
  • Recruiting experience required;
  • Knowledge of HR policies and procedures and best practice on recruitment and selection;
  • Knowledge and experience with WCB regulations; and human rights legislation;
  • Knowledge of the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee requirements;
  • Experience supervising staff;
  • Experience with conflict resolution and HR Metrics;
  • Computer experience required with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Knowledge and/or experience with developmental disabilities/non-profits preferred



  • Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, customer service, decision making and diplomacy skills;
  • High degree of judgement and ability to maintain confidentiality is essential;
  • Ability to identify and solve problems, and to take initiative in improving business processes;
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships;
  • Ability to conduct a site inspection;
  • Ability to perform incident investigations;
  • Accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage priorities and achieve results within acceptable time frames, taking into consideration changing priorities and fluctuating deadlines;
  • Ability to research, analyze and reason logically and effectively, and
  • Ability to work as a proactive team member and independently in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment



Education: University degree, diploma or certificate in Human Resource Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.



CPHR or working towards a CPHR
