Weekend Shelter Youth Worker 
Location: Calgary, AB- Avenue 15

Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary is a leading provider of quality programs to children and youth, with a $20 million dollar operating budget, that supports the healthy physical, educational and social development for 20,000 young people and their families each year.

Avenue 15 provides youth experiencing homelessness with temporary shelter and basic needs, as well as a comprehensive support system to assist them in reuniting with their families or finding alternative living arrangements. Avenue 15 provides programs to support youth with the opportunities to gain the skills and stability to reunify with family or be successful in other living arrangements.

 

As a Weekend Shelter Youth Worker with Avenue 15, a typical day might include:

  • Implementing routines and activities to provide a safe milieu that fosters resolution to the crisis the youth is experiencing 
  • Providing support to youth in the program and assisting youth in developing and implementing a goal plan, including connecting youth with appropriate resources.
  • Taking an active role in the training of new team members, including volunteers and practicum students, provides input on performance of part time and relief staff to the Coordinator 
  • Recognizing the importance of natural supports in each youth’s life and therefore ensures the inclusion of appropriate natural supports in case planning whenever possible 
  • Encouraging and assisting child/youth to develop skills needed to attain higher levels of functioning by helping them to set and achieve their goals 
  • Responsible for ensuring the case management of clients is being completed, ensuring all basic needs and programming expectations are being fulfilled while fostering personal growth and development

 You Have:

  • Degree/diploma in Human Services or enrolled in such program 
  • A  minimum of 2 years of experience working with at-risk youth is essential 
  • Flexibility to work weekends
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification 
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Welfare Intervention Check
