Full-Time Family and Natural Support Reconnection Worker

Location: Avenue 15, Calgary

Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary is a leading provider of quality programs to children and youth, with a $20 million dollar operating budget, that supports the healthy physical, educational and social development for 20,000 young people and their families each year.


Avenue 15 provides youth experiencing homelessness with temporary shelter and basic needs, as well as a comprehensive support system to assist them in reuniting with their families or finding alternative living arrangements. Avenue 15 provides 2 programs (Link & Launch) to support youth with the opportunities to gain the skills and stability to reunify with family or be successful in other living arrangements.


As a Family and Natural Support Reconnection Worker with Avenue 15, a typical day might include:


  • Ensuring the inclusion of appropriate family members in case planning.
  • Assisting youth and their families in developing problem solving, conflict resolution and communication skills.
  • Being an effective, mature and appropriate role model for all youth and their families.
  • Advocating for youth and their families to promote increased family functioning.
  • Working collaboratively with the youth workers to provide case management to youth and their families, with the support of the Coordinator.
  • Ensuring that all documentation is kept current, complete and professional.  Conveys pertinent information regarding youth and their families to the team in a timely manner.
  • Managing crisis situations effectively using problem solving and de-escalation skills.
  • Supporting families in the development and implementation of action plans to address goals.
  • Promoting parenting that fosters resiliency, responsibility and independence.
  • Encouraging and assisting family members to access informal and formal support resources as needed.
  • Documenting, implementing, and revising service plans, progress and discharge reports in cooperation with the family and Avenue 15 staff
  • Providing leadership and role modeling for staff team, specific to Agency’s Mission, Vision, Values, Policy and Procedures, and program/licensing standards.
  • Being adaptable to work a flexible schedule that meets the needs of the families.

You Have:

  • Must have experience with vulnerable populations
  • Degree or Diploma, in Human Services is preferred or a related education background with experience.
  • Extensive understanding of CARF Standards
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving, organizing, planning and analytical skills.
  • Supportive team player and team builder.
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • Use of a reliable vehicle with $1,000,000 liability, permission to carry passengers and business coverage on the vehicle.
  • Proficient computer knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as excellent oral and written skills.
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Intervention Record Check
