Position Summary 
The Summer Community Youth Liaison is responsible for planning, implementing and participating in programming for youth in care. The student will work with the Experiential Lifestyle Mentor to develop and facilitate intentional recreation and life skills programming and will be required to liaise between program youth and community agencies or businesses to provide long term opportunities. Programming will include recreation, life skills, employment and/ or volunteering. This employment opportunity will be a 16 week position and will require evening and weekend availability.
  • Plan, organize, and liaise between program/youth and community agencies/business for 6 youth residing in group care.
  • Ensure that the youth’s basic needs have been met with a focus on fostering personal growth and development.
  • Connect with youth in the program to determine their strengths, interests, challenges, and goals.
  • Identify and build working relationships with agencies and business in the community that are a fit with the youth’s needs and interests.
  • Support youth in being successful in their individual and group summer programming opportunities– driving to placement/ activity, supporting youth to be on time and prepared to begin on time, ensuring youth have the equipment/required tools for the position/ activity, liaise with placements as needed to ensure youth success.
  • Recognizes the importance of family and other youth identified supports and strengthening those relationships through supervised activities.
  • Supports the youth in culturally appropriate formal and informal supports within their community.
  • Encourages and assists youth to further develop life and living skills associated with self sufficiency and successful community living.
  • Ensures that all program information is collected and compiled in the database.
  • Assists youth in developing and practicing problem solving, conflict resolution and communication skills. 
  • Ensures that all documentation regarding the youth is completed on their present shift so the information regarding the youth is conveyed to the entire team.
  • Manages crisis situations effectively using problem solving and de-escalation skills. 
Education and Skill Requirements
  • Attending post-secondary studies in the Human Services field
  • Must have been enrolled in full-time studies during the previous school year and returning to full-time studies in September 2018
  • Experience working with at-risk youth is an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR certification
  • A  current Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and Child Welfare Intervention check prior to starting work
