Full Time Program Coordinator
Location: YEAR (Youth Engaging Acting and Responding) Bowness & Forest Lawn,Calgary

Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary is a leading provider of quality programs to children and youth, with a $20 million dollar operating budget, that supports the healthy physical, educational and social development for 20,000 young people and their families each year.
YEAR relationally engages the youth in Bowness through relevant community programs, activities and events. YEAR offers youth the chance to build awareness of the opportunities and needs in their community, and get positively involved.
As a Program Coordinator with YEAR, a typical day might include:
  • Empowering and leading YEAR and Raising the Grade staff and volunteers 
  • Developing and facilitating weekly youth-centered programming
  • Recruiting and engaging community youth in a relationship-based way to attend the weekly programming 
  • Building relationships with interested community stakeholders and partners
  • Ensuring youth are connected to resources where they can have basic needs met 
  • Contributing to the overall vision and success of the YEAR initiative
  • Participating in relevant YEAR meetings and committees. 
  • Facilitating the process and tasks, relationships and action so that youth in these communities experience a greater sense of belonging, safety, connection and respect.    
  • Advocating for and empowering the youth of Bowness/Montgomery/Greenwood to feel involved and connected to their community, as well enable and inspire them to be active and contributing participants in their respective communities.

You Have:
  • Degree in a related field such as social work, education, or a combination of relevant training and applied experience
  • Must have experience in the supervision and support of staff and volunteers.
  • A preference of six or more years’ experience working directly with children, youth, and families in a community setting
  • Experience working with hard to reach youth/families in home and/or school and community environments
  • Must have experience in delivery of community programs and extensive knowledge of community collaboration, community resources and services.
  • Positive and effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving, organizing, planning, time management and analytical skills.
  • Must be flexible and have willingness for change and creativity.
  • Supportive team player and team builder.
  • Proficient computer knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as excellent oral and written skills.
  • Strong ability to engage and connect with children, youth and adults from diverse backgrounds and an understanding and awareness of diversity issues.
  • Ability to engage stakeholders and facilitate their involvement
  • Able to work independently and at the same time, in a team environment
  • Resourceful, energetic, creative and self-directed
  • Good understanding and ability to appropriately apply behavior management skills with individuals and in group settings
  • Able to work flexible hours
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and a class 4 Drivers license with acceptable drivers abstract or ability to successfully acquire within the first three (3) months of employment.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification is also required. 
  • Ability to work up to three evenings per week as well as occasional weekends
  • A cleared criminal check with vulnerable sector search and Intervention check*
*If the checks are older than 6 months, successful applicants will begin this process during new hire paperwork.
