Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for the right individual to fill the position of Business Development & Marketing Coordinator.  The key function of this position is to oversee the strategic business development and brand awareness of Bissell Centre’s two social enterprises, the Thrift Shop & Moonlight Bay Centre, in order to increase their respective revenue. The revenue generated from these social enterprises help fund Bissell’s programs and services.


Each summer, Bissell Centre hosts camps for low-income families and adult wellness retreats at its venue, Moonlight Bay Centre. When the facility is not being used by Bissell, it is available for rent. Located along Wabamun Lake, Moonlight Bay Centre is a relaxed, seasonal venue for groups up to 100. Facilities include a dining hall, commercial kitchen, recreation hall, cabins, canoes, a firepit and more, and is best suited for Retreats, Weddings, Reunions, Family and Youth Camps.


Bissell’s Thrift Shop is located in the Alberta Avenue area and provides an alternative shopping experience that is affordable, environmentally responsible, and gives back to the community. In 2017-18, the Thrift Shop contributed over $195,000 in annual revenue back into Bissell’s programs and services.


Specific responsibilities of the position include:


Moonlight Bay Centre

  • Set and achieve or exceed annual sales and performance objectives for bookings.
  • Develop new markets and approach different market segments to sustain Moonlight Bay Centre’s viability as a social enterprise, in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team.
  • Develop and implement a creative marketing strategy that integrates various online and traditional channels in order to increase revenue.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service by assisting potential, new and returning guests in all facets of their rental experience in an efficient, courteous and professional manner. This is offered through: facility tours, tailored information packages, and prompt communication prior, during and after their stay.
  • Work with Bissell’s Operations Manager to ensure maintenance and repairs are done in a timely manner to ensure that it is attractive to potential guests and safe for everyone.
  • Oversee and coordinate the cleanliness of the facility and its guestrooms with various contractors.
  • Report on activities, partnerships, budgets and programming on a monthly basis.
  • Other duties as required.

Thrift Shop


  • Create a standalone Thrift Shop website and manage the content for various social media platforms, in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team.
  • Integrate new Thrift Shop brand identity into wayfinding and signage, merchandising, promotional and marketing materials.
  • Develop and implement a creative marketing strategy that integrates various online and traditional channels in order to increase revenue.
  • Work with Thrift Shop Manager to execute plans to acquire new customers and donors, and increase engagement of existing customers and donors.
  • Report on activities, partnerships, budgets and programming on a monthly basis.
  • Participate in supervision and team meetings as needed.


The ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:


·         A degree in a relevant field or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience

·         Minimum three years of related marketing and/or hospitality sales and/or event coordination

·         Considerable knowledge of the principles of marketing and communications

·         Ability to develop and implement marketing plans, strategies and promotional events

·         Knowledge and understanding of graphic design, Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, WordPress website maintenance.



·         Familiarity with issues of poverty, homelessness and Edmonton’s urban core.

·         Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, result orientated, good time management, strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

·         Ability to work as part of a team, as well as, independently.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.

  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle

This is a permanent, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week.  Flexibility of the working day is inherent in this position. Some evenings, weekends and holiday work is required.
