Newcomer Dad’s Outreach Worker


SUMMARY

The scope of this position will be to provide outreach support services to newcomer families, with a specific focus on dad’s. The dad’s outreach worker will connect with families in the community to build working relationships with dads to best support them during their integration into the community while also planning and facilitating workshops and family events. Dad’s will gain valuable learnings and opportunities to explore life in Canada, challenges, triumphs and family dynamics. The outreach worker will connect dad’s to community services for increased community information and connection for themselves and their families.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Completion of High School
Relevant Diploma/Certificate (i.e. Human Services) an asset
Experience in a position with the provision of social services, supportive services, outreach, or related duties
Experience working with newcomers to Canada in a community based setting
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Intermediate to advanced computer knowledge –MS office suite and Internet
Must be fluent in the English language (both verbal and written)
Fluent in a second language; preferably Arabic
Ability to work independently and with others
Current first aid, food safe, car seat/seatbelt safety training an asset
Great attention to detail
Ability to foster partnerships, and work in collaboration with local organizations and/or schools
Ability to frequently travel into the community; Class 5 driver’s license a must
Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supporting families and dad’s in identifying their needs/concerns while connecting isolated communities with early learning and parent support programs
Accessing support services related to individual needs
To maintain accurate program data records and prepare program reports on a monthly and quarterly basis
Gives out, distributes information regarding programs, services and resources of Umoja and the community
Plans, facilitates and coordinates workshops and family outings/events
Provides home visits to clients
Provide transportation to clients when needed
Forges and maintains partnerships to support clients
Accompanies clients to access necessary services
Refers and connects clients to relevant programs and services
Work collaboratively with colleagues in the other programs to share information and help achieve organizational goals; work as an integral member of Umoja team
Attend program planning, review meetings, monthly meetings, all staff meetings and community meetings as required
Adhere to the policies and procedures and practices of the society
