Position Status: Contract

Salary:  $11/hr – Day Camp Counsellor

               $11/hr – Junior Leader Coordinator

               $14/hr – Day Camp Leader

Contract Dates:  June 25th to August 25th

Location: Community YMCA; 2269 Gottingen Street, Halifax, NS

The YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth is looking for dynamic individuals to join our Day Camp team for the summer.  Day Camp staff at all levels are responsible for making the magic of camp happen.  We are hiring for a number of positions to support the operation of our Day Camps, including: Day Camp Counsellor, Junior Leader Coordinator, and Day Camp Leader.

The Opportunity

YMCA Day Camp staff are responsible for providing a safe, fun, inclusive environment for kids. 

  • Ensure quality, inclusive, meaningful programming for participants
  • Serve as role model and mentor for children/youth participants
  • Provide excellent customer service to participants and families
  • Complete necessary paperwork and safety-related tasks

 

Qualifications

As an energetic, creative programmer, you bring:

  • Demonstrated success in plan/organize games, sports, arts, crafts, cultural activities, lead field trips, etc.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills to work with youth, parents, and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines and priorities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation/workshop facilitation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and proof of valid First Aid and CPR training. Employees will be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training
