A gratifying opportunity exists for a Homemaker position within Atira Property Management Inc.’s single room accommodation hotel portfolio in the new modular building, Sarah Ross House at 4480 Kaslo Street. Atira Property Management Inc. offers quality property management services for non-profit housing, housing cooperatives, strata corporations, developers and rental properties in Greater Vancouver. As one of the first mission-driven companies of its kind in Canada, Atira Property Management is a social-purpose business that grew out of Atira Women's Resource Society.





Must have a minimum one year experience as a front-line support worker working with people who have complex needs and who may also be struggling with substance use and or mental wellness, poverty, episodic or chronic homelessness and who face multiple barriers to securing safe, affordable long-term housing. Experience as a Personal or Health Care Support Worker and/or as a support worker in a similar setting is required. Must adhere to a feminist analysis of violence against women. Must have a well-developed analysis of the ongoing effects of colonization and the resulting impact on First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples; must understand and be at ease working within a harm reduction environment.



Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assists tenants with the personal care tasks of daily living, including dressing, skin care, hair care, mouth care; bathing/showering, positioning and movement, basic wound care, feeding (including special diets);
  • Assists tenants to keep their rooms clean, prepare for pest control, do laundry, etc.;
  • Assists tenants with rest and mobilization such as to sit up, transfer or lift, walk or ambulate in wheelchair/therapeutic chair and commode;
  • Encourages and may accompany tenants to activities that promote social and recreational inclusion such as community kitchen, tenant meetings, support groups, special events, walking and other physical and social activities;
  • Documents and updates all relevant information about known care plans, medication and procedures put in place to achieve tenants safety and comfort;
  • Ensures all relevant information is passed on in staff overlap, for follow up;
  • Practices universal precautions and adheres to WHMIS protocols;
  • Researches and provides tenants with information about health issues and other resources, as requested by tenants;
  • Provides support and advocates with tenants to improve support from government and non-government organizations;
  • Maintains respectful, effective, open and honest communication with tenants, co-workers and direct supervisor.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage stress
  • Knowledge of group processes and facilitation techniques
  • Knowledge of and skills necessary to work with women who struggle with substance use
  • Thorough understanding of harm reduction especially as it relates to women, violence and struggles with substance use
  • Ability to work effectively with program staff as well as other non-profit and or publicly funded groups, agencies and organizations



A Personal or Health Care Support Worker certificate.



Additional Requisites/Assets:

  • BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker registration
  • A valid First Aid certificate is required
  • A current Non Violent Crisis Intervention certificate or equivalent is required
  • Food Safe Certificate level 1 is required
  • Ability to fulfill the physical demands of the job
  • All positions are subject to a criminal records review
