A gratifying opportunity exists for a Building Services Worker within Atira Property Management Inc.’s single room accommodation hotel portfolio in the new modular building, Sarah Ross House at 4480 Kaslo Street. Atira Property Management Inc. offers quality property management services for non-profit housing, housing cooperatives, strata corporations, developers and rental properties in Greater Vancouver. As one of the first mission-driven companies of its kind in Canada, Atira Property Management is a social-purpose business that grew out of Atira Women's Resource Society.

 

 

Qualifications:

Completion of the either the BladeRunners, Atira, Planet Clean, Open Door BSW training programs or an equivalent program is required. Experience living, working or volunteering within Downtown or Downtown Eastside single-room occupancy hotels is preferred. Additional skill-based training secured through employment, volunteer work, workshops offered by community organizations and or engagement in community activities is a significant asset. Relevant volunteer and/or work experience is an asset. Maintenance skills and experience is also a significant asset.

 

 

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Washing/cleaning floors and carpets
  • Cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, office(s) and other common areas, including windows, stairwells and breezeways
  • Disposing of refuge;
  • Dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the immediate grounds, including sweeping the front sidewalk and alley;
  • Minor maintenance and other duties as may be assigned by the building/program and/or the property manager 

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Physical ability to carry out heavy cleaning
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • General maintenance skills
  • Ability to be non-judgmental in trying situations
  • Ability to be flexible; responding to multiple unique situations
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to give & receive constructive criticism
  • Ability to learn from experiences
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage stress and crisis is required

 

Additional Information & Requirements:

  • Atira Property Management Inc. is committed to hiring from the local community
  • A valid WHMIS certificate is required before commencing work
  • A valid First Aid certificate is an asset
  • Awarding of all positions is subject to clearing a mandatory criminal records review
  • The Building Services Worker is regularly exposed to and in direct contact with dust, dirt, fumes. cleaning and other chemicals, germs and human waste
  • This position requires you to work with and support people who are marginalized by their experiences of poverty, struggles with substance use and or mental and spiritual wellness and who face multiple and intersecting oppressions and who may, as a result, engage in difficult behaviours
