Job Summary:

The Senior Therapeutic Supervised Access Worker provides supervision and monitoring for visits between parents and their children where there are concerns for physical, psychological or emotional safety. Visits will take place in the family home, the foster family’s home, or in a program or community setting. Visits could be between one family or with a group of families, if this is appropriate. The Senior Therapeutic Supervised Access Worker will/may provide transportation to and from a visit for children. The Senior Supervised Access Worker may be required to work weekends and evenings. This position must be available for staff consultation and any emergency calls that may arise during weekend shifts. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess needs, past history of violence and level of vigilance required for visits.
  • Schedule visits with family, foster family and select an appropriate venue.
  • Provide orientation to parents and their children separately.
  • Establish guidelines for children and adults about limits on physical contact and signals to be used if they are feeling uncomfortable and want the visit to end.
  • Transport family members to visit the site, if needed, within the guidelines of confidentiality and prevention of possible violent situations.
  • If warranted, meet parents and foster parents separately and ensure that they do not come in contact with one another to ensure safety and confidentiality.
  • Set up play space with toys and activities appropriate to the age and developmental stage of the children.
  • Remain with family for the duration of visit, monitoring all parent-child interactions for safety and appropriateness.
  • Model appropriate childcare practice with reference to play, napping, personal care, and eating routines (when directed by Social Worker).
  • Provide teaching and guidance to parents, if warranted, Re: communication, appropriate child management etc.. (when directed by Social Worker).
  • Provide reports about supervised visits, and be prepared to testify about this in court, if necessary.
  • This position may involve flexible hours up to 35 hours (including evening, weekend and stat. holidays) work to accommodate needs of clients.


Education and Qualification Requirements:

  • Child and Youth Care diploma or equivalent.
  • An understanding of integrated case management/wrap around service delivery
  • Must have knowledge, training and experience in dealing with conflict resolution and crisis management
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the community
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills


Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends is required.
  • Current First Aid, Class Five Driver’s License and use of own car required.
  • A driving test and car seat test will be required
  • Clear Criminal Record Check.


Start Date:         As soon as possible

Position Type:  35 hours permanent full time

Reports to:        Associate Director

Union:               This is a union position

Benefits:           Full benefits package upon eligibility

Salary:              Grid Level 14, Step 4, $27.74 per hour
