RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Food Services Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and administration the food services department operation. It is the responsibility of the Food Services Coordinator to identify the growing needs of the food services. 

Monitor and participate in food preparation to ensure that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to recipes, portion control, cooking and serving standards.

Determine the appropriate, creative and efficient use of food, including donations so as to minimize waste.

Ensure that adequate planning has been made for any special dietary needs

Responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining room following Ontario Health Regulations and management expectations; maintain sanitation, hygiene, health and safety standards and safe handling of foods while performing duties.

Participate in the hiring, orientation, training, development and evaluation of food services staff; ensure staff safety and compliance with all Health and Safety Standards, monitor and analyze reports.

Adapt work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services.

Ensure the appropriate storage and usage of food items, ensuring perishable items are used prior to their expiry date. 

Control cash and other receipts by adhering to cash handling and reconciliation procedures in accordance with The Salvation Army policies.

Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to all internal and external contacts; work collaboratively with other community partners and agencies, build relationships and maintain external partnerships to enhance programming 

Monitor preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment, recommends repairs and purchases as required.

Responsible for the ordering and monitoring of food and kitchen supplies; establish guidelines for the security of food supplies and all cooking equipment. 

Provide input and/or participate in the preparation of the departmental budget. 

Responsible to maintain a level of competency and understand Sections 25 and 26 of the OHSA.  Ensure that the measures and procedures prescribed (OHSA) are carried out in the workplace and that every reasonable precaution is taken for the protection of the worker and workplace

Perform other position related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completed more than two (2) years of Community College, i.e. program/apprenticeship related to hospitality or food and beverage service management. 

Minimum of two (2) years of prior related cooking experience in the food service industry and at least one (1) year of experience in areas of supervision and budgeting

Safe Food Handlers Certification

Ability to lift/move 40 lbs. (18.14 kgs)

Be able to reach, bend and stoop frequently;  work in a standing position for long periods of time

Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations regarding food preparation and/or nutrition and knowledge and skill in the application of safe food handling and sanitary requirements of a food service operation

Skill in following nutritional menus and preparing food according to recipes; ability to plan nutritionally sound meals within a budget; ability to coordinate and train others in food preparation; ability to expand or decrease recipes; ability to estimate food needs in advance, maintain inventories and order/ purchase sufficient food items

Ability to organize time and materials in order to meet deadlines; ability to operate kitchen equipment safely; ability to communicate effectively with others regarding all aspects of menu planning and food preparation; ability to prepare tasteful, visually appealing foods; ability to set up food in an appealing manner

Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills

Self-motivated and disciplined.

Must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL)  

Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to follow detailed instructions

Experience in training employees and working with a  team

Strong organizational skills and time management

Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License; own transportation is required; a current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. 

Updated First Aid and CPR certificate, WHIMS certificate and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.

Current medical clearance with TB test result qualifies for working in Class II license lodging home under Government Act.

Provide an original copy of a Background Check screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.

Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

 

This is a permanent, part-time position.  Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work may be required and a willingness to adjust the weekly work schedule in order to better service the clients is required.  This position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and as such is not covered by various ESA rules, including but not limited to those related to hours of work, daily and weekly rest periods, and overtime compensation.  Salary is based on average minimum weekly hours of 20 per week and hours worked are compensated through the annual salary amount.
