A. AGENCY DESCRIPTIONThe Elizabeth Fry Society of Edmonton is a Non-Profit Organization that works to empower and support women and girls who are criminalized and those who are at risk. EFry offers programs and services that address the root causes of crime, support women and girls to make healthy choices as contributing members of our community, and that ultimately have a positive impact on community safety.



Our Satellite Court #4 Program functions similarly to the Agency’s other court programs wherein the strategic program goal is to demystify the court process for all those appearing in court. The Program Coordinator for Satellite Court #4, under the direct supervision of the Court Program Manager, will strive to increase Albertans’ understanding of court processes, their options, and the expectations of the court. The Program Coordinator will work in close collaboration with partnering agencies.


  2. Supervision

-  recruit, train, assign tasks and supervise court volunteers


  1. Direct Service

-  provide listening, information and referrals for anyone attending court

-  offer support services to persons in Provincial Court

-  respond to court-related queries

-  maintain current information and sufficient materials and supplies for program delivery


  1. Advocacy

-  keep Court Manager informed of legislative and judicial changes affecting program delivery 

-  maintain statistical records of changes within the Criminal Justice System

-  liaise with Legal Aid, defense counsel, prosecutors and other court personnel


  1. Networking

-  with other Elizabeth Fry Society co-ordinators to ensure the smooth transition of clients through the criminal justice system

-  with Duty Counsel, Defence Counsel, Prosecutors, as needed by accused persons, their families or court personnel

-  with Legal Aid, Probation, Fine Options, Bail Office

-  with partnering agencies as well as community agencies


  1. Written and Statistical Reports

-  collect and provide monthly statistical reports 

-  assist with program evaluation

-  write annual report as directed


  1. Attend Agency Events

-  Attend regular staff meetings

-  Participate in Agency events and committees in accordance with Agency priorities


  1. Any other duties as laid out by the Court Manager or Executive Director




  1. Knowledge and Ability

-  Familiarity with the objectives of the Society

-  Knowledge of the Canadian criminal justice system, criminal law and court procedures.

-  Good interview, oral and written communication skills

-  Ability to motivate people

-  Ability to organize, to plan ahead, and to manage diverse workload

-  Ability to teach volunteers a distinction between accurate information, and advice


  1. Training and Experience

-  3-5 years experience in a professional setting, preferrably non-profit, with proven ability to work well independently.

-  Formal Training in volunteer management, program development and methodology is an asset

-  Formal education in a human services field is mandatory: sociology/criminology, law, political science, psychology or related social sciences.


  1. Other Qualifications

-  Must be eligible for security clearance

-  Experience in supervision of volunteers and/or students

-  Must be well-versed in the protocol of courts

-  Must be non-judgmental, have maturity, tact and common sense

-  Must have valid driver’s license and be able rent a vehicle


This is a full-time position with benefits (after successful completion of probationary period), based on a 35 hour work week. This is a contracted 1 year position for maternity leave coverage.


Salary: Based on Agency Salary Grid
