Who are we?
Parkgate Community Services Society (PCSS) is a registered, not-for-profit charitable society providing programs and services to our friends and neighbours at Parkgate Community Centre and satellite locations east of the Seymour River. PCSS exists to serve the community and our team works in partnership with more than 350 volunteers to develop and deliver responsive programming that meets community need leveraging community resources. We provide services to youth and seniors. We operate an extensive child care and family services program. What’s the job?
We are looking for engaging and proactive Dance Crew members to work at our nine annual Preteen Dances and attend a preliminary training session in September. The main objective is to connect and support youth at these dances that allow preteens from all over the North Shore interact and socialize in a safe environment. This is the ideal job for an individual looking for more experience/opportunities to work with youth, but also great for those seeking to strengthen their community and give back on a casual basis. The ages of preteen are 10yrs-12yrs.

What will you do?
• Be proactive within the dance (doing trivia, leading dance offs, getting the limbo started, etc…);
• Connecting with youth whether checking in how their dance experience is going or reminding them of the rules/expectations of the dance;
• Support fellow Dance Crew members, which consists of both staff and volunteers;
• Help with setup and takedown of the various areas of the dance (put up signs, remove chairs and tables, prepare concession area, setup karaoke, etc…);
• Be part of our team: Be an active, participating member through responding to callout emails by deadline, put the phone away while working, bringing forward issues or concerns that you notice and engaging with the crew help find solutions

 

Who are we looking for?
Here’s what you bring to our awesome team:
• Willingness to connect and help mentor youth between the ages of 10 – 12 (prefer applicants with experience);
• A commitment to work at least 5 Saturday dances throughout the year from 6:00pm-10:30pm: minimum shift length
• A person with an outing personality who likes engaging large groups of preteens;
• Exceptional communications skills: willing to reach out to youth without formal introductions and open to give and receive feedback;
• Previous learning that demonstrates interest in and knowledge of best practice in the field of Child & Youth Care: a understanding of confidentiality, individual rights and personal space;
• A demonstrated passion for youth and youth-related issues;
• Current First Aid (with CPR) & Foodsafe are all valuable assets;

Hourly Wage: $15.00 per hour
