POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Maintenance Manager supervises work performed by facility maintenance staff to ensure proper maintenance of Edmonton buildings in addition to clean and sanitary conditions. Working with staff, volunteers, community participants and residents to oversee safekeeping of buildings, keys used for Seed vehicles, and locking/unlocking areas to be cleaned. Assists in the planning and execution of building projects as directed by the Managing Director. Provides assistance to other departments whenever needed and is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all Seed vehicles.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Building and Vehicle Maintenance—ensure all SEED vehicles are licensed
  • Ensure facilities, vehicles and grounds are clean and maintained in safe working order by providing strong hands on direction and leadership of the Facility Staff and residents
  • Ensure walkways, sidewalks, parking lots, and entrances are cleaned and cleared of snow on all properties belonging to the Seed
  • Carry out daily inspections of buildings, equipment, and work carried out by facility maintenance staff
  • Service power equipment systems on a monthly basis
  • In consultation with the Director, responsible for the hiring of full-time and part-time staff
  • To provide employee coaching and supervision, and to ensure proper training of staff is taking place
  • Ensure the facilities are in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Work with the Managing Director and other departments for the betterment of facility staff in their efforts to improve safety and health programs
  • Ensure work orders are completed in a timely fashion
  • Update maintenance logs
  • Work with outside contractors to ensure constructions projects are completed within deadlines
  • Abide with Health and Safety regulations—report any safety-related accidents or incidents
  • Able to use hand tools and power tools
  • Other related duties as assigned

Renovation & Repairs

  • Obtain estimates for work to be done in a timely fashion to ensure work is being done on time
  • Coordinate work in progress and informing other department heads of work going on in their areas
  • Ensure accurate maintenance records are kept up-to-date

Administration

  • Provide staff scheduling, and approve and monitor employee’s days off, as well as ensure that there is appropriate trained staff to oversee fine-options available
  • Provide information and report problem areas to the Director and seek approval from the Director for major changes, additions and staffing issues
  • Ensure that all employees directly responsible to the Facility Department are evaluated annually
  • Update timesheets for staff and submit to Payroll or Finance Department, work orders are received by staff through email and/or telephone
  • Create work schedules to ensure the buildings are properly monitored;

Spiritual Leadership

  • Represent the spiritual nature of The Mustard Seed at work, church, and in the neighborhood;
  • Challenge staff to compassionately respond to the needs of the inner city’s less fortunate  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Post-secondary education preferable
  • Supervisory experience in building maintenance
  • Highly organized and self-directed with a knowledge of WHMIS and OH & S standards
  • Knowledge of building maintenance systems
  • Minimum of one year experience in custodial and/or other related work
  • Must have janitorial experience including waxing, mopping, buffing, floor polishing and carpet cleaning
  • Must have an ability to supervise staff and work well with people
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license required and a reliable vehicle
  • Able to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
  • Must be prepared to attend work related courses such as; first aid, WHMIS and equipment training
  • Ability to lift and move at least 50 pounds
  • Must adhere to Health and Safety regulations
  • Desire to work in a Christian environment is an asset
  • A passion to be part of ending homelessness in Alberta

OTHER INFORMATION

  • This is a permanent, full-time position at 40 hours per week where you will be based at Community Support Centre but required to be offsite at other Mustard Seed locations. Work completed will be indoors and outdoors.
  • This includes some travel regarding picking up supplies, dropping off and picking up facility staff from and to various Seed locations;
  • This position is often fast-paced, and requires substantial mental effort to analyze information and problem solve
  • Considerable periods of standing, walking, indoors and outdoors
  • Ability to lift and move at least 50 pounds
  • Mental effort: moderate, periods of high volume workload
  • Physical effort: moderate, Extended computer use, sitting, reaching, standing, lifting, climbing stairs, and walking
  • Employment Security Check is required
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to be in agreement and to sign our statement of faith
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
