The Children/Youth Ministries Coordinator will provide oversight to children and youth ministries programs   Give focused attention to strengthen and grow the programs and attend to the spiritual growth and development of the children and youth. 




Contribute to the spiritual development of children/youth and young families within the church and community by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate attitudes and behaviors.

Coordinate, maintain, and assist in the evaluation of Salvation Army programs/ministries relevant to the children/youth of the church and community at large including worship, fellowship, discipleship, Outreach and regular special events.

Review current programs and make recommendations for changes where needed.

Work in cooperation and consultation with the church’s leadership team, administrative staff and pastoral care givers.

Plan and implement fellowship events for children, youth and young families with the goal of creating fun, fellowship and outreach.

Demonstrate keen interest in connecting young families to our church through outreach programs and relationship building.

Maintain rolls and stats relevant to children and youth ministries and their leaders (e.g. Junior Soldiers Roll, Cradle Roll, Sunday School Roll, police checks, completion of the statement of applicant for work with children and youth, on-line abuse prevention training, etc.)

Maintain program storage areas (e.g., toy cleaning, updating, safety, organizing, etc.)

Plan, supervise and participate in regular special church events, primarily focused on children, youth and their families. (e.g. Christmas assistance, Camps, Carnival Day, Red Cap, Baby song, sports programs, Vacation Bible School, etc.)

Support and participate in Divisional children and youth events.

Demonstrate keen pastoral interest in and involvement with children, youth, and their families.

May provide input into the departmental budget and be required to monitor the financial performance accordingly.

Prepare and deliver children and youth worship services and devotionals for both the senior corps and for youth events on a regular basis.

Organize and coordinate fundraising initiatives as required.

Interact with community partners as necessary to seek resources and services for youth. 

Perform administrative duties associated with position requirements. 

Promote and provide oversight to all current programs and develop and recruit a volunteer base for children/youth ministries and provide training where necessary.

Develop and implement outreach ministries.

May assist with Community and Family Services ministry when needed and with outreach programs for youth

Perform other position related duties as required.




Completion of a Community College, e.g. Diploma in Biblical Studies, a degree in Biblical Studies or equivalent education would be an asset

Minimum of two (2) years prior related experience working with and providing programs for children and/or youth is preferred.

Participation in The Salvation Army New Hope Community Church as an active member is expected

Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to young people and parents

Understand, support and be able to communicate and model the Mission, Values, Doctrines and policies of The Salvation Army in Canada

Current Safe Food Handling Certificate, or willing to obtain and maintain current certificate

Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willing to obtain and maintain current certification

Strong team player, leadership skills are required

Understanding of the children and youth  and associated needs

Understand, support, and be able to communicate and model the Mission, Values, Doctrines and policies of The Salvation Army in Canada

Proficiency with social media

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint

Self-motivated and disciplined

Effective time management and strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Adaptable, behave ethically and build relationships

Conflict management and resolution skills

Ability to teach and lead various activities and ability to lift/move more than 20 lbs.

Communicate effectively, strong oral and written communication skills

Creativity, innovative, and organized

Strong problem-solving skills

Foster teamwork, lead positively and influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization.

Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle and insurance is required; an original copy of a current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion is required.

Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.

This is a permanent full time position based on 35 hours per week and includes a ½-hour unpaid meal break where applicable.   The hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor and will include weekend and evening work.  Flexibility in scheduling is required and will vary according to the needs of the children and youth ministries. Travel is required.
