Hours:                         3.5 hours per week, for 7 weeks, plus two 4 hour training shifts

Reports To: Program Coordinator, Youth Mindfulness Group

The Youth Mindfulness Group meets for 2.5 hours weekly for 7 weeks in a safe and welcoming environment. Two Youth Mindfulness Group Facilitators are responsible for the intake and assessment of 12 group participants and co-facilitation of the program. The Youth Mindfulness Group Facilitators will co-lead this program and engage participants in learning about their anxiety and discovering helpful coping tools through creative activities and discussions.


Nature and Scope:


The YMCA Mindfulness/ Y Mind Program helps young people experiencing symptoms of mild to moderate anxiety to learn healthy coping strategies and connect with like-minded youth in a safe and encouraging group environment.  The program will be delivered in Prince George and at least one additional Northern BC community. 


Reporting to the Y Mind Coordinator, the Y Mind co-facilitator will help the Y Mind Coordinator or designate to deliver the Y Mind Program.  The co-facilitator, in consultation with the Y Mind Coordinator, may also participate in related activities such as planning, information sessions, program promotion, assessment, debriefing, evaluation, and follow-up. 


Major Responsibilities:


Key Responsibilities (but not limited to)

  • Facilitate 7 group sessions and create a warm, welcoming and safe group environment
  • Help create and maintain a safe, supportive atmosphere
  • Work in an integrated way with co-facilitators and Y Mind Coordinator
  • Intake and assessment of program applicants at 2 information sessions
  • Maintain a solid understanding of available resources and provide information, support, and referrals to community agencies for applicants and participants as indicated and available
  • Help ensure program content meets the appropriate criteria and meets the needs of all participants
  • Collaborate with partners and stakeholders as needed, and maintain or develop positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures
  • Perform administrative tasks as indicated
  • Participate in marketing, program promotion, and outreach to recruit participants, as directed by the Y Mind Coordinator
  • Ensure program quality assurance


  • Bachelor’s degree in a mental health field such as Psychology, Counselling, Social Work
  • Master’s degree in mental health or Counselling related field or equivalent combination of experience and education required
  • Experience working with youth (18-30 years of age) experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and mood problems
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience conducting intakes and assessments
  • Ability to recognize mental health signs and symptoms beyond the mild to moderate spectrum and provide referrals to appropriate medical and community agencies.
  • Experience developing and facilitating stress management and coping skills workshops
  • Mental Health First Aid Certificate an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and decisions; effective prioritizing and problem solving skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Computer proficient – Microsoft Office
  • High degree of independence and initiative within a team environment
  • First Aid/CPR-C certificate required
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date and provide 3 professional references.
