Supervises:        Direct Marketing Manager



Position Summary:


The Canadian Liver Foundation is seeking an experienced and motivated Manager of National Fund Development who will be responsible for strategic leadership and growth of key national fundraising programs to support the Foundation’s mandate. The Manager of National Fund Development will be responsible for cultivating, securing and managing national corporate, cause-related marketing and foundation relationships as well as leading national direct marketing programs including direct mail, telefundraising, online giving and monthly giving.



  • Develops, directs and implements a national strategy to meet annual and long-term fundraising objectives by identifying and cultivating new prospects leading to financial support through national corporate, foundation, major gifts solicitations and cause-related marketing.
  • Develops and directs the implementation of a national strategy to meet annual and long-term fundraising objectives through national direct marketing programs including direct mail, telefundraising, online giving and monthly giving.
  • Plans for short-term and long-term growth of key national fundraising programs, ensuring the Foundation delivers on its mandate to support ongoing and new research and education initiatives.
  • Accountable to ensure revenue/expense/net budgets are met for the national direct marketing and national fundraising programs for the Foundation.
  • Sets up appropriate monitoring mechanisms to ensure continued success and effectiveness of programs, providing weekly/monthly reports to the Director of Partnerships & Development.
  • Manages, coaches and motivates staff to achieve and exceed fundraising targets, ensuring resources are maximized to their full potential.
  • Develops, coaches and manages the volunteer strategy to enhance volunteer engagement and support for the national fundraising objectives of the Foundation.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • University degree or equivalent experience in health/not for profit sector
  • Strong leader with successful business acumen and a proven track record of success in the creation and execution of fundraising plans.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of direct marketing and donor/corporate/foundation development and management principles and practices.
  • Proven successful experience in cultivating, securing and managing corporate/foundation support and major gifts, including experience with fundraising databases.
  • Innovative and accomplished fundraising or corporate development professional with at least five (5) years of experience in the not-for-profit/health charity sector.
  • Excellent understanding of building, monitoring, analyzing and managing budgets.
  • Self-starter and a results-driven individual who is focused and motivated to meet/exceed financial targets.
  • Demonstrated initiative and creativity in developing cost-effective solutions to meet objectives.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines and follow through on commitments.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, interpersonal and negotiation skills; capable of networking, building partnerships and closing a deal.
  • A highly-reliable and results-oriented individual with the capacity to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Willing to travel, valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Flexible to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Fluency in French (written and verbal) is an asset.
