Position Overview

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Manager, Fund Development, manages the execution of fundraising strategies (events and campaigns) whose results enable the organization to acquire resources that address the emerging needs, challenges and interests of a growing Caledon community.


Position Deliverables/Accountabilities

Under the general direction of the Chief Development Officer and working closely with the Fundraising and Communications &Marketing teams and the CEO, the incumbent will:

  • Review current fundraising and donor relations systems and processes including goals/targets/, operational processes, resources and fundraising staff performance. Analyze strengths and opportunities and develop recommendations and plans that support fund development and fundraising;
  • Provide prudent and innovative approaches for the continuous improvement of fundraising and donor relations processes that align with an over-all fund development strategy and the Caledon community’s philanthropic opportunities and generate improved fundraising outcomes;
  • Provide expertise, data/analytic and decision support to the Chief Development Officer and/or Senior Management that support the development of short term (1 year) and longer term (3 years) fundraising and donor engagement strategies;
  • Manage and implement annual fundraising events/campaigns as well as third party fundraisers within assigned budgets and timelines;
  • Manage, coach and mentor fundraising staff and volunteers, inspiring them to meet deliverables, embrace new challenges and grow professionally;
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with fundraising/event committee volunteers and various stakeholders who act as ambassadors of CCS fundraising;
  • Promote and maintain a positive, polished and professional image of CCS to individuals, businesses, organizations and all other Agency stakeholders;
  • Prepare regular progress reports on results of fundraising and donor engagement events and campaigns for the Chief Development Officer and/or Senior Management, including on-going analyses of processes, results and recommendations for improvements;
  • Support the Chief Development Officer/Senior Management by developing an effective Major Gifts program that stewards the growth of positive relationships with higher-profile individuals, businesses and organizations across Caledon and beyond;
  • Collaborate closely with the Communications and Marketing Division to ensure all fundraising activities, events and promotional materials align with CCS’ key messaging and communication standards;
  • Collaborate closely with the Finance and Infrastructure Division to ensure integrity of all donations, records and operational budgets as well as strict adherence to all policy and CRA legislation governing charitable organizations and CCS governance and operating policies;
  • Ensure the effective utilization, accuracy, maintenance and confidentiality of fundraising database records;
  • Serve on the agency’s Middle Management group (Operations Coordination Team);
  • Other duties as assigned;


Qualification Criteria



  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Fundraising, Public Relations, Marketing/Communications or Business) or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation an asset;
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check;


  • Minimum three years related experience, ideally in the not-for-profit sector;
  • Supervisory/Management experience of individuals and teams;
  • Developing and executing multi-faceted, team-based fundraising and public relations initiatives;
  • Overseeing operational budgets;
  • Public relations track record an asset


  • Range of fundraising vehicles including Major Gift, Planned Giving, Third-Party Events, Direct Mail, etc.;
  • Knowledge of CRA rules and regulations governing Canadian charities;
  • Familiarity with the Town of Caledon’s communities an asset;


  • Organized with strong follow-through in project completion;
  • Time management skills and ability to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities;
  • Project-management skills;
  • Ability to both receive and give direction;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and assume ownership in achieving outcomes;
  • Flexibility and adaptability;
  • Ability to effectively organize, analyze, evaluate and synthesize information, particularly in assessing effectiveness of processes and procedures, preparing management reports, etc.;
  • Ability to link processes, procedures and outcomes towards the achievement of strategic priorities;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including public speaking/ presentations;
  • Keen sense of diplomacy;
  • Creative, resourceful, innovating, cost-efficient and results-oriented;
  • Solid leadership, people-management, coaching and mentoring skills;
  • Ability to evaluate performance, provide feedback to direct-reports in a constructive manner;
  • Ability to confidently and diplomatically engage with stakeholders at all levels to develop and manage positive relationships with prospects, donors, senior level volunteers and influential community and corporate stakeholders;
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook) and comfort with data management systems (Donor Perfect and Raiser’s Edge);
  • Driver’s license, access to vehicle, willingness to travel locally (mileage is reimbursed);
  • Able and willing to work flexible hours as needed;
