Salary:                          $30.66 - $35.75 depending on qualifications and experience - Hourly rate subject to Collective Agreement – Grid 16P

Hours:                          35 hours per week

Job Summary:

Provides assessment, treatment planning, and clinical counselling to families where child protection concerns underlie family functioning challenges, or to prevent the development of child protection concerns. Therapeutic interventions are provided to families referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), Langley, Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH), Langley, and from the Delegated Aboriginal Agency in Langley.  Services may be provided in office or on an outreach basis.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, assesses and monitors client’s needs in conjunction with clients, caregivers and/or other service providers.
  • Interviews clients to gather case history information. Assesses profound social, psychological, emotional and/or behavioral issues affecting families. Identifies core areas of concern to be addressed by clinical counselling.
  • Develops and implements, with client involvement, therapeutic plans and programs necessary to meet client goals and objectives. Evaluates the effectiveness of Individual Service Plans and client’s progress.
  • Provides individual, family, and group counselling interventions using a variety of best practices therapeutic techniques depending on client need. May be required to work some evening and/or weekend hours to accommodate families attending services or to facilitate groups.
  • Provides follow-up support to clients after the end of therapy treatment. Monitors and evaluates client functioning and interaction with family and friends and in the community. Advises other professionals involved with the families where further evaluation or more intensive treatment is required.
  • Maintains knowledge of community resources and provides appropriate referrals to clients to meet their needs.
  • Formulates and facilitates groups in program areas for clients and/or their families as required.
  • Provides consultation to those working with families (i.e., social workers, probation officers, other organizational staff, and other professionals)
  • Provides required reports on families’ behaviors and progress. Maintains clinical records indicating the nature and duration of treatment. Ensures client files are current, contain the necessary information, and meet accreditation and agency standards.
  • Reports and discusses case planning and concerns with supervisor and relevant professionals consistent with confidentiality policies. Works as a team member, providing and receiving feedback and support. Participates in team meetings, clinical supervision, program planning and decision making as requested.
  • Participates in staff training sessions and public education forums, seminars and conferences relevant to the specific program areas. Engages in prevention activities by networking, consultation, and public relations as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

 

Education, Training and Experience:

 

Must possess a Masters Degree in Counselling, Social Work or a related Human/Social field

  • Maintains current registration as a Registered Clinical Counsellor, or is willing and able to become registered.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working with individuals and families.
  • Experience with direct program delivery in the community social services sector with demonstrated working knowledge of community based programs is preferred.

 

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Specific training and/or experience in working with clients on parenting related issues
  • Knowledge of family and couples therapeutic principles and interventions
  • Proficient in delivering psycho-educational and therapeutic services to children, youth and parents
  • Knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques
  • Excellent organization, time and general management skills
  • Well-developed oral and written communications skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal helping skills
  • Ability to work independently and with other program staff, relevant service providers and community members; awareness of community resources and referral sources
  • Experience using computers and software such as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven ability to work effectively during crises
  • Experience in trauma work an asset
  • Knowledge of counselling and support strategies; sound integrated case management skills
  • Demonstrated skills in mediating with parents and teens; and amongst teens
  • Demonstrated skills in resolving conflicts between children, youth and family members
  • Awareness and ability to educate and intervene regarding racism, violence, and discrimination of all kinds (race, gender, sexual orientations, age, physical ability etc.)

 

Additional Information:

  • Criminal record check is required.
  • Current First Aid Certification.
  • Union (CUPE) Membership required.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence and use of personal vehicle with appropriate insurance is required.
  • Mileage is paid where driving for work performed is required. Mileage is not paid for to and from work site for start and end of shift purposes.
  • This position operates on a flextime schedule as per Collective Agreement.
