Scouts Canada is seeking a Program Coordinator – STEM & EnvironMentality to join our team at our National Office in Ottawa.

Working closely with the Scouting Experience team, you will support the continued development and implementation of the STEM and EnvionMentality program at Scouts Canada. In your role you will provide staff support to the development of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math concepts ensuring the STEM program is fully integrated and aligned with Scouts Canada’s core programs.  Lead the development and implementation of Scouts Canada’s new environmental stewardship program “EnvironMentality”.

 

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Lead and manage the development and implementation of the Scouts Canada STEM program and the EnvironMentality Program.
    • Enhancing/developing a multi-year strategic plan, associated roadmap and detailed annual business plans. Including how STEM & EnvironMentality will deliver on the mission of Scouting.
    • Working closely with the joint volunteer and staff program team to ensure the STEM program is fully integrated with the Canadian Path. Including recruiting and supporting volunteers and subject matter experts to assist in the expansion of STEM related programs.
  • Collaborate with the Scouting Experience teams to develop integrated communications, change management and implementation strategies to support the implementation of the STEM & EnvironMentality
  • Co-ordinate efforts with Volunteer Services to ensure timely and appropriate adjustments are created to support the training and service support of Section Scouters as it relates to the STEM program and EnvironMentality.
  • Lead research funding opportunities to help enhance both fields and, as appropriate, development of government / private grants. Work with the (Revenue) Development team to ensure an integrated approach to fundraising, sponsorship and alumni support.
  • Provide support and guidance as required with respect to other programs and projects which are directed through the Program Services Department. Such projects and programs could be related to Canadian or World Jamborees; International Relations and #NatureForAll partners.
  • Monitor, analyze and share with the membership, new research relative to youth development, educational trends, recreational areas and shifts in societal practices which could impact on the age groups served within the Movement.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex STEM and Environmental concepts in a straightforward fashion
  • Highly strategic thinker and can develop programs that support organizational goals
  • Strong project management skills to see program projects through from development, execution and evaluation
  • You are a team player and have the ability to positively influence a collaborative environment
  • A Creative thinker and bring innovative ideas and concepts to programs
  • You are energetic, motivated self-starter with a strong drive for results
  • You are flexible and understand there is more than one way to accomplish a goal

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a STEM or Environmental discipline or related field.
  • Master’s Degree in Education is an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in teaching and/or program development
  • Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of current educational trends in curriculum and instruction
  • Experience with and/or understanding of the application of technology and social media tools to educational programs for youth

 

Other Details: 

  • You will work at our National Office in Ottawa
  • Regular office hours, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
  • Must have a clean Police Record Check and pass a Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Some travel required to Council events or other opportunities to support of Scouts Canada program
