Directions Youth Services provides 24/7 support to at-risk, homeless, and street-involved youth under 25. Vancouver’s most vulnerable youth can connect with supports, get counselling for trauma, mental health or substance issues, and transition to more permanent housing. Directions operate several facilities and programs for youth throughout Vancouver.

Directions is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV), which for 90 years has provided trauma counselling and essential resources for children, families and individuals facing all kinds of life’s challenges.


Reporting to the Youth Detox Manager, the Assistant Manager helps plan, develop, implement, and oversee the day-to day operations of this unionized environment.   In addition, the Assistant Manager is responsible for ongoing supervision of staff including selection, and performance management. The Assistant Manager works in conjunction with management to develop and meet program and organizational goals. 


Program Management: With support of the Manager, oversees the day-to-day operation of the program by ensuring the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and polices are adhered to and program standards are met.

Program Planning: With support of the Manager, plans, formulates, implements, and evaluates program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.

Program Quality: Reviews and evaluates client progress, makes adjustments to service plans as required and provides follow up planning. Provides on-floor support when required

Performance Management: Supervise and evaluate staff and monitor daily operations by performing duties such as assigning work, providing feedback on performance, and conducting performance evaluations.




Education and training:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related human / social service field required.
• First Aid, FoodSafe level 1, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates are assets.


• Minimum 3 years recent related experience
• Minimum 2 years supervisory experience.
• Training or experience in addictions and youth work.
• Experience with Case Management
• Knowledge of mental illness 
• Thorough knowledge of adolescent development, at-risk youth and the child welfare system
• Excellent organizational, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
