ROLE STATEMENT

Summary of Function:

The Senior Development Officer, Corporate Partnerships (SDOC) provides overall leadership in securing and stewarding the corporate giving portfolio (sponsorship and philanthropic). The incumbent will lead the effort to secure support from the corporate sector including all phases of the process from research and prospecting to sales strategy development and pitches to reporting and client servicing. The SDOC is responsible for supervising junior level and seasonal staff as well as volunteers on an as needed basis and is a revenue generating position with established sales targets.

DUTIES

Ambassador

·         The Senior Development Officer, Corporate Partnerships will act as an ambassador for Harbourfront Centre (HC).  They will develop an in-depth knowledge of the Harbourfront Centre brand, its programs, events and audiences. Attend external receptions, conferences, seminars and other events at Harbourfront Centre and within the community as a representative of the company to keep informed about the objectives of HC.

                                                

Revenue Generation

 

·         The SDOC will establish and manage a sales funnel and be expected to reach an established sales target as set by the Chief Development and Chief Financial Officers in consultation with the SDOC.  

 

The SDOC supports sponsor prospecting, solicitation and completion of sales through preparation and delivery of:

·         Prospect and corporate profiles;

·         Contact briefs and/or record keeping of all communications related to the sponsorship effort;

·         Grant applications (corporations);

·         Establishing tailored rights and benefits for each prospect; and

·         Sponsorship and activation and corporate major gift agreements.

 

 

The SDOC will:

·         Develop relationships with brands and marketing agencies and secure meetings to present upcoming HC programming alignments and opportunities;

·         Respond promptly to all requests from brands and their agencies regarding sponsorship inquiries;

·         Qualify prospects and develop a cultivation/solicitation plan for each company

·         Prepare tailored proposals for presentation to the prospective sponsor  based on sponsors’ objectives;

·         Arrange and attend business meetings with prospective sponsors and invest in cultivating long term relationships for the benefit of HC; and

·         Renew existing sponsors (where appropriate and timely) for multi-year

 

Partner Servicing               

The SDOC oversees all partner servicing activities for corporate partners (sponsorship and philanthropic giving) by overseeing the servicing team and:

·         Ensuring contract obligations are met (e.g. logo recognition/inclusion, category exclusivity), Communicating sponsorship deliverables to colleagues across the organization ;

·         Maintaining regular communication with senior contacts and ensure client satisfaction is met and exceeded;

·         Participating in evaluations and complete partner reports and financial reconciliations of agreements for submission;

·         Participating in reporting/renewal meetings with the partners;

·         Managing corporate contacts with prospects and track all activity;

·         Coordinating on-site sponsor brand engagement logistics with internal and external stakeholders;

·         Evaluating sponsor rights and benefits and identify new opportunities to deliver value to partners; and

·         Consulting on sponsorship best practices with co-produced partner festivals and alignments with HC’s best sponsorship practices and guidelines.

Key Performance Indicators

·         Meets or exceeds revenue targets on an annual basis

·         Effectively delivers all contractual obligations to corporate sponsors and/or donors

·         Enhances HC’s reputation with the corporate community through on-going outreach and relationship development efforts

·         Develop new revenue opportunities and/or programs to attract additional support from the corporate sector

·         Work effectively with other departments to meet HC’s overall objectives

 

Skills & Requirements

Essential Criteria

·         Post-secondary education in Communications, Marketing or similar field, and a minimum of 5-10 years related experience;

·         Proven experience in corporate sponsorship or marketing;

·         Superior interpersonal skills and relationship building skills;

·         Experience managing staff and/or volunteers;

·         Diplomacy skills to respond to difficult situations and requests;

·         Excellent writing and verbal skills to deal with representatives of corporate partners;

·         Proven research and negotiation skills;

·         Attention to detail and accuracy;

·         Knowledge of current business and marketing trends, practices as well as sponsorship marketing practices and corporate philanthropy;

·         Ability to organize multiple activities within time deadlines; and

·         Excellent computer skills including experience using relational databases, Excel and PowerPoint.

 

Desirable Criteria

·         Experience using Tessitura;

·         Experience in fundraising and/or philanthropy;

·         French language skills are an asset; and

·         Agency experience, focus on experiential marketing and brand engagement.

 

Working Conditions

·         Flexible hours for occasional evenings or weekend events
