POSITION SUMMARY

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS) is seeking an experienced Food Sort Supervisor to join our team. This position will engage, inspire, supervise and train corporate and community/individual group volunteers.

The successful candidate will be expected to balance relationship building with corporate and community organizations as well as maintain the operational efficiency and accuracy of product in the warehouse sort areas.

Main Duties:

Working closely with the Order Accuracy Coordinator and the entire Operations team, the Food Sort Supervisor will:

  • Engage corporate and community/individual group volunteers in awareness of the GVFB and its programs through various engagement touch points including orientation, tour, and information sharing. Working closely with Development and Communications to share information related to both areas.
  • Complete successfully internal operations training plan and orientation, within pre-determined training schedules, completion, sign off and timelines.
  • Manage on-line booking tool for group volunteer sessions and establish activities to be completed during scheduled sort shifts.
  • Provide orientation, support, supervision and leadership to corporate and community/individual group volunteers, while providing guidance and direction as to tasks and activities to be completed during their schedule.
  • Develop and keep up-to-date appropriate materials including orientation packages, GVFB reports, sort manuals, sort area signage, etc.
  • Prepare the sorting areas with all tools and equipment required for volunteers to sort food and other donated items successfully and accurately.
  • Flag inventory levels in conjunction with Operations System Administrator to create replenishment tasks for all program product ordering and production.
  • Familiarize volunteers with safety and accuracy protocols, ensuring their comfort and safety in the warehouse
  • Ensure cleaning standards are met and adhere to recycling processes.
  • Use SAP Business by Design solution in all goods movements, inbound, outbound, and internal production tasks.
  • Keep accurate records of corporate and community/individual group volunteer hours.
  • Engage corporate and community/individual group volunteers and connect key contacts with key staff. Communicate and liaise with staff as needed.
  • Deliver any other such work duty as requested by the Operations Manager
  • Work with Operations Department leadership and provide input for operations planning and deadlines.
  • Complete successfully internal operations training plan and orientation, within pre-determined training schedules, completion, sign off and timelines.
  • Reach targets, goals and Key Performance Indicators as set with Operations Manager. Discuss and complete evaluation and engage in yearly performance reviews.

Qualifications

  • Two years of group volunteer and/or facilitation experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully working with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong interpersonal, time management and organizational skills with dedicated attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines and work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Computer skills, including familiarity with social media and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience within a not-for-profit environment or the food industry an asset.
  • Valid class 5 BC Driver’s License an asset.
  • Food Safe Level 1 an asset.
  • Experience with SAP software an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with MRP, IMS and barcode systems is an asset.

Physical Requirements

  • Physically fit and have the ability to lift up to 50lbs on a consistent basis.
  • May need to sit or stand as needed. May require walking on a leveled surface throughout the day.
  • Strong voice delivery as requires ongoing information sharing in a warehouse setting.
