The Program:

WJS Canada’s Shortstop Youth Resource is a six bed emergency receiving home for aboriginal youth unable to remain in their current homes. We have been providing youth in crisis situations with this safe and nurturing environment for the past 23 years. Shortstop Youth Resource is a single detached home with a warm, inviting atmosphere. It is located within a residential neighbourhood in South East Vancouver, close to major bus routes and the Canada line skytrain.

Youth are encouraged to reach their full potential by discovering their own inner strengths. Shortstop programs balance life skill education with recreation in a culturally appropriate context. The program focuses on encouraging positive life changes and increasing the young person’s self-esteem in a therapeutic environment.


The Position:

The Program Manager provides operational and administrative direction for the development, implementation and management of the program in this CARF-accredited agency. This position implements and monitors policies and procedures related to day-to-day services to persons served and directs and coordinates the day-to-day management of program staff. The Program Manager works directly with persons served and their families/care teams as required, and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating individual program plans. The Program Manager participates in agency decision making and is the primary liaison with the contracting body.



This permanent full-time position will work 40 hours per week:

  • Sunday to Thursday, 0800-1600

Schedule varies to meet operational needs and front line work will be required. Required to be “on-call” during scheduled time off.


As an ideal candidate you possess:

  • A degree in one of the humanities, social sciences or related field with educational preparation for the roles of manager and administrator.
  • Minimum of three years in a similar facility or program, with at least one year in a supervisory or management role.
  • Must have specific experience with financial and human resource management.
  • Current WCB Occupational First Aid, Level 1 and CPR certificates required.
  • Experience with basic sign language and/or alternative communication strategies training or experience an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract
  • Must be able to pass screening by Licensing Board and be approved as PIC (Person in Charge)

Other Requirements:

  • A physician’s note confirming suitability, including a negative tuberculosis screening test
  • Successful criminal record/vulnerable sector check.
  • Successful candidate must sign an oath of confidentiality, a conflict of interest statement, abuse protocols, and a code of ethics statement

**Successful applicants will be required to participate in MCFD screening prior to confirmed employment with WJS Canada.**
