NEC Native Education College is a large private Indigenous college in Vancouver and also works with First Nations and Indigenous organizations to deliver programs in locations throughout British Columbia. NEC works to strengthen Indigenous communities through accredited programs that lead to employment and higher learning. Students have access to many resources and in-house supports that include funding, counselling and career advising. The Indigenous cultural values in NEC programs are at the core of reconciliation, economic success and a sustainable future for all nations.



Reporting to the President as part of the executive team, the Dean of Student Services position oversees and builds culturally appropriate support services for students facing multiple barriers. The Dean ensures the enrollment and student records functions of the college meet required specifications. This position supervises the student services department employees and fosters an environment contributing to student success and the management of the Native Education College.



  • Plan, develop, implement and manage efficient and effective support systems for admissions, financial aid, and student services including library, bookstore, canteen and counselling services
  • Oversee student related responsibilities including strategic enrollment management, records management, graduation requirements, transfer credit evaluation, criminal record search reviews and clarify and resolve student issues and/or policies
  • As a member of the management team, plan, implement, and review NEC operations relating to student services, and secure funding sources for the department
  • Provide leadership and support to staff, liaising with external partners including funding agencies, other post-secondary education institutions, practicum partners, employers, and multiple stakeholder organizations.
  • Supervise student support staff including Associate Registrar, Librarian, Counsellor, Cultural Coordinator, Food Service Worker and manage the budget for the department.
  • Ensure that services meet internal and external quality standards, including those of PTIB, SABC, other accrediting organizations, and other post-secondary institutions.
  • Ensure that services delivered are culturally appropriate for diverse Indigenous learners.
  • Contribute to the management of NEC and undertake activities which make a positive contribution to achieving its overall mission.
  • Manage available financial resources and access new resources by developing proposals and budgets for core services and the delivery of services with community partners
  • Lead project teams and assign, monitor and evaluate the work of student services staff and external contractors.


  • Masters degree from an accredited institution and at least three years of senior management experience, preferably in a post secondary setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience in post-secondary student services including duties of a registrar and planning and implementing student services.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, conflict management, change management, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to set clear goals and ability to empower and engage staff and stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and manage a continuous improvement process in service delivery, policy development and student engagement.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, conflict management, change management, interpersonal, communication, program development, project management, and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership capacity and skills to set clear goals and the ability to empower and engage staff and stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop, interpret and apply multiple levels of internal and external requirements, including policies, procedures, laws, statutes, and organizational bylaws in complex situations.
  • Demonstrated success in budget/financial administration skills.
  • Extensive human relations management experience and a demonstrated ability to manage in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of or experience working with Aboriginal organizations.


This is a full time excluded position with a six month probationary period. Appointment to this position will require a formal criminal record check, the details of which may preclude an offer of employment being finalized. This position is based in an office environment; some travel expected to attend off-site meetings and events. Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal applicants.

Hours:                         8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday (or 7 hr/day as scheduled)

Salary:                        Based on a combination of qualifications and experience
