GLADSTONE COMMUNITY PROGRAMS - PROGRAM LEADER

 

Position Overview:

The Vancouver School Board’s Gladstone Community Schools Team is currently seeking a part-time Program Leader to support vulnerable elementary and secondary students during out of school time in schools located in Kensington-Cedar Cottage. Our programs service 6 neighbourhood elementary schools and Gladstone Secondary School, and provide diverse opportunities for children and youth

 

Responsibilities:

You will plan and implement Out of School Time (OST) programming for secondary and elementary students in our family of schools. You will provide outstanding leadership to implement social recreational programming during the out of school time.  You will manage and mentor volunteers from Gladstone Secondary.  You will report to and work closely with the Community Schools Coordinator to ensure that each program is implemented in a physically and emotionally safe environment and aligns with the program goals. Your effective communication and organizational skills will assist the Community Schools Team to provide excellent service to students in the community.

 

The program leader will be responsible for leading and planning for one of the following program areas: sport/physical literacy, arts and crafts, cooking, homework help, Music and/or STEM.  Experience in one or more of these areas is an asset.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year experience working with children and youth in a recreational setting
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • HIVE FIVE certification or willingness to obtain
  • The successful candidate will be required to complete and pass a criminal record check (cost $28)

 

Remuneration and Hours:

The job is flexible varying between approximately 6-15 hours per week and can be during school

lunch hours and during out of school time hours– applicants must be available to work afternoons until 5:00pm, as well as possible weekend or evening work. This position will require travel to a variety of sites within a neighborhood on a regular basis. This position offers an hourly wage of $12.65 to $17.24 (+ 10.67% in lieu of benefits) depending on experience.
