RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent is responsible for providing direction, vision and leadership and to asses on a continual basis the effectiveness of the Residential Services Programs. The Residential Services Manager provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of strategies and programs to meet the identified needs of our clients. They develop and coach the Residential Services Supervisor’s and oversees all staff assigned to the residential services program to ensure program outcomes are achieved.

 

Service Development/Delivery

  • Ensure the Vision, Mission and Values guide the day-to-day work.
  • Ensure that The Salvation Army Emergency Shelter Operating Principles are utilized in the planning and service delivery
  • Ensure adherence to the City of London Emergency Shelter Guidelines
  • Support and apply on a consist basis the principles of the Housing First philosophy
  • Ensure the completion and accuracy of all internal and external reporting requirements
  • Develop positive working relationships and maintain effective communication with internal and external organizations and community members
  • Pursue alternative and/or enhanced funding sources
  • Develop, review, and recommend relevant policies and procedures
  • Ensure mechanisms are in place for a responsive complaint process
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive case management process
  • Develop and implement service criteria/business plan i.e. private room rentals, occupancy agreements etc.
  • Effectively manage public relations issues relating in conjunction with London Centre of Hope management and/or public relations at DHQ
  • Provide client intervention within highly sensitive and high-risk situations.
  • Provide input and participate in the budget process and monitors/manages financial performance accordingly
  • Perform other position related duties as requested.

Human Resources:

  • Ensure and participate in hiring, orientation and employee development and ongoing evaluation and feedback.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness, changes in policies and procedures
  • Ensure that there is appropriate levels of staffing as per 24/7 operational requirements
  • Ensure the completion and update of employee position descriptions and job duties as required.
  • Provide ongoing performance coaching and encouragement; ensure that all performance reviews are completed in a timely manner
  • Understand and comply with union contract
  • Ensure compliance regarding staff training requirements and the development of staff training needs and opportunities as required.
  • Develop and implement an inclusive orientation process for new employees Health and Safety
  • Responsible to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations
  • Participate in the review of all Health & Safety related accidents and injury investigations; ensure that preventative measures are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that proper procedures are followed in the event of a workplace injury or illness, conducting incident investigations when required.
  • Ensure that all staff are aware of emergency procedures and are prepared to implement them immediately as necessary
  • Works cooperatively with the Environmental Services Director to ensure living areas are cleaned regularly according to acceptable health standards and that physical property is maintained, arranging for repairs as necessary

Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to
    position responsibilities.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers of The Salvation Army London
    Centre of Hope
  • Complete all duties in accordance the Standards and Policies and Procedures of The Salvation Army London
    Centre of Hope
  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner and assist personnel whom the position
    supports in developing those skills as required.
  • Participate in community meetings, committees, and boards as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
  • Participate in supervision and performance appraisal process.

This position description will be reviewed by the employee and supervisor on a regular basis. Amendments
can be made at any time at the discretion of the employer.

 

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a relevant Undergraduate University Degree
  • Minimum of four (4) years of prior related experience, including, experience in a specialized social services
    program, budgets, supervisory experience, managing resources and communicating orally and in
    corresponding with funders.
  • Solid background of how to work with people from diverse backgrounds, mental health/addiction issues,
    homelessness, etc.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel, WORD, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Must have or be willing to attain First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Ability to fulfill responsibilities according to The Salvation Army standards by independently applying
    supervisory directives.
  • Ability to demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, versatile, and/or tolerant in a changing work environment
    while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.
  • The incumbent must have an understanding of ethical behaviour and ensure that his/her own behaviour and
    the behaviour of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to
    achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using
    appropriate and effective communication tools (social media) and techniques.
  • The incumbent must have the ability to develop new and innovative ways to improve operations.
  • Ability to focus on client needs anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of internal and external
    clients to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters.
  • Ability to foster teamwork and be able to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolves
    problems, and makes decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Ability to positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization.
  • Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear, effective decisions
    which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
  • Ability to organize and set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track
    details, data, information and activities
  • Ability to determine strategies to move the program forward, set goals, creates, implements actions plans, and
    evaluates the process and results.
  • Ability to assess problem situations to identify causes, gathers and process relevant information, generates
    possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
  • Ability to think strategically and assess options and actions based on trends and conditions in the environment,
    and the vision and values of the organization.
  • A current valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle and insurance is required and must be
    maintained, a current driver`s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is
    required.

    Perform other position related duties as required.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend, evening and midnight work
    may be required and a willingness to adjust the weekly work schedule in order to better service the clients is
    required.
