Program Overview

The new Information and Orientation Program for Internationally Trained Professionals in Architecture, funded by the IRCC, offers newcomer architectural professionals an opportunity to gain knowledge of the Canadian workplace by providing access to technical information, mentorships, and the possibility of internships and employment in architecture.



Program Facilitator/Employment Counsellor, Job ID #8001


Full-time / One-year contract starting ASAP with possibility of renewal / Keele & Finch


We are looking for an upbeat, outgoing individual who is comfortable delivering workshops through online platforms and has the ability to keep internationally trained professionals motivated during their job search. This person will also bring with them their job search strategy and labour market expertise combined with innovative ideas to assist with the development of online program curricula and strategies to ensure program and employment targets are met.


Your duties will include:

  • Conducting orientation sessions, assessing participant eligibility, and coordinating referrals
  • Facilitating, leading, and instructing students online; maintaining participants’ records, files and training materials
  • Providing job search and workplace communications training online and completing participant profiles and action plans
  • Planning and coordinating an online Group Mentoring process and facilitating mentoring matches and support mentors and mentees throughout the process
  • Referring participants to existing resources and supports in the community including those offered by EO centres
  • Monitoring work experience placements and visiting practicum sites; liaising with community partners
  • Conducting participant evaluations, liaising with the program evaluator, and monitoring progress and developing action plans where necessary
  • Maintaining participant and program records and assembling data for use in reports and program evaluation and to implement improvements
  • Documenting and monitoring employment outcomes; tracking participant progress both during and after program completion

Please note, flexible hours / evenings / weekends may be required for this role.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in counselling or social work with placement experience or degree with 3-5 years counselling experience and/or a post graduate diploma in counselling or social work with placement experience. International degrees must be evaluated for Canadian equivalency.
  • Experience working with Internationally Educated Individuals in the immigration, employment and/or settlement sectors
  • Expertise in academic research and proven experience in adult education and curriculum development for online instruction
  • Solid organizational, oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literate; proficiency in Microsoft Office is necessary for this position as is familiarity with online communication tools (ie. Skype)
  • A Vulnerable Sector Police Check is required for this position.


Our ideal candidate will also have:

  • Knowledge of the labour market specific to architecture
  • Knowledge of and exposure to Employment Ontario
  • Certification from a Career and Work Counsellor Program
