Position/Poste: Communicative Disorders Assistant /Team Leader, Aphasia and Communication Disabilities Program


Locations/Lieux: York Region (Newmarket, Maple, Vaughan, Stouffville)- 5 days a week, 30 hours a week (Permanent, Full Time)



- Through consultation with the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), and with the assistance of trained community volunteers, provide group communication programs, and skill sessions for adults with aphasia, and related neurogenic communication disorders in accordance with the high quality standards in professional ethics, policies and procedures of March of Dimes Canada, and the Aphasia and Communication Disabilities Program.

- Devise, prepare and schedule communication program activities /or events. Utilize and teach strategies to assist clients in meeting their communication goals and program roles

- Participate, collaborate and consult with Program Manager, SLPs, Social Workers, Attendants, other agency staff, volunteers, and community members/organizations/partnerships

- Develop aphasia friendly communication program materials (i.e., monthly calendar, creative skills session materials) in consultation with our SLPs, student interns and volunteers.

- Supervise, coordinate, train staff, volunteers, students, other professionals (Attendants, Social Workers, CDAs/SLPs from other agencies who attend modules, workshops, etc.) and caregivers of clients


Qualifications/Compétences requises:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a discipline related to health and social services an asset

-  Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) certificate or diploma

- Eligible for full membership in Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC)

- Current knowledge of a wide range of neurogenic and acquired adult communication  disorders

- Knowledge of supportive communication techniques and AAC aids and techniques specific to adult neurogenic population, and ability to train others

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Effective interpersonal skills

- Possess sound professional judgment, tact, initiative, creativity and flexibility

- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills

- Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle in order to work at varied locations
