This permanent part-time, (average 11hrs/week) position provides direct daily living, health and community access supports to all individuals involved in a cluster housing project in Kelowna, implementing the philosophy and values of Communitas. Primary duties include working together with all stakeholders to build a support program that meets the goals of the personal service plan of supported individuals.

Shifts are:

  • Week 1: Mon 5pm-7pm, Tues 5pm-7pm, Wed 5pm-8pm, Fri 5pm-8pm
  • Week 2: Mon 5pm-7pm, Wed 5pm-8pm, Thurs 5pm-7pm, Fri 5pm-8pm, Sat 5pm-7pm


  • Assist individuals of the program in maintaining their accommodations; general housekeeping and laundry
  • Develop a support system that is adequate and appropriate to the needs of the individual supported
  • Perform tasks that cannot otherwise be done by the supported individual
  • Assist supported individuals to:
    • plan a menu of nutritious, affordable meals; provide assistance in purchasing of food and meal preparation if necessary
    • remain healthy by washing and bathing regularly, keeping needed appointments (medical/dental), maintaining sound sleep routines, avoiding potentially harmful activities and substances, etc.
    • learn basic housekeeping skills, provide assistance as necessary
    • develop communication, time and money management skills, as well as knowledge and ability to get around in the community
  • Supports supported individuals in developing and maintaining a social and, if desired, a spiritual network
  • Provide peer support, as desired by the supported individual
  • Report, as required, to the program manager
  • Participate in developing service plans and other creative responses to situations
  • Participate in regular staff meetings
  • Other duties as required


  • Community Support Worker certificate or approved equivalent
  • A philosophy of service that is in line with Communitas’ Vision, Mission and Values
  • Able to implement “Spirit of Gentleness” principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Excellent teamwork skills, ability to maintain honest, direct and respectful relationships
  • Is flexible with availability (cell phone relief and staffing relief)
  • Computer skills as necessary to complete reports, etc.
  • Possession of a valid Class 4 BC driver’s license (restricted)
  • Possession of a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate with CPR (must maintain valid certification)
  • Possession of a Food Safe Certificate
