Program Overview

International Skills Applied for Geriatrics (ISAGE) is a MCI funded bridge training program for Internationally Educated Professionals in Healthcare, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Resources and other related licensed occupations delivered in partnership with George Brown College to gain relevant skills and explore alternative careers in the field of Gerontology and Social Services. It offers newcomers an opportunity to gain knowledge of the Canadian workplace, provides access to mentorships and the possibility of internships and employment in the field.

ISAGE

Full-time / 1 year contract with possibility of renewal / Starting ASAP / Keele & Finch

 

We are looking for an upbeat, outgoing individual who is comfortable delivering workshops and has the ability to keep internationally trained professionals motivated during their job search. This person will also bring with them their job search strategy and labour market expertise to ensure program and employment targets are met.

 

Your duties will include:

  • Conducting outreach to ensure adequate number of eligible and qualified participants
  • Conducting orientation sessions, assessing participant eligibility and coordinating referrals
  • Facilitating, leading and instructing students; maintaining participants’ records, files and training materials
  • Providing job search and workplace communications training and completing participant profiles and action plans
  • Arranging and coordinating mentoring partnerships for program participants, monitoring work experience placements and visiting practicum sites; liaising with community partners
  • Liaising with program Advisory Committee and being actively involved in meetings by presenting updates, taking minutes, and contributing to the discussions
  • Conducting participant evaluations, liaising with program evaluator, and monitoring progress and developing action plans where necessary
  • Maintaining participant and program records and assembling data for use in reports and program evaluation and to implement improvements
  • Documenting and monitoring employment outcomes, assisting with the development of strategies to ensure employment targets are reached and track participant progress both during and after program completion

Flexible hours / evenings / weekends may be required for this position.

 

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling or Social Services with placement experience, or a related degree with 3-5 years of counselling experience. International degrees must be evaluated for Canadian equivalency.
  • Experience working with Internationally Educated Individuals in the immigration, employment and/or settlement sectors
  • Solid organizational, oral and written communication skills
  • Computer literate; proficiency in Microsoft Office is necessary for this position
  • A clear Police Vulnerable Sector check is required for this position

 

Our ideal candidate will also have:

  • Knowledge of the labour market specific to geriatrics
  • Online curriculum development and facilitation is a definite asset
  • Certificate from a career and work counselling program
  • Certification from an organization such as VRA Canada or ICCI
  • Knowledge of and exposure to Employment Ontario
  • Familiarity with online communication tools (ie. Skype)
