Position: Young Parent Support Worker

$19.50 / 30 hours a week

The Young Parent Support Worker provides assistance, support and resources to young pregnant or parenting youth, accessing Purpose Society’s Ready-Set-Grow Daycare or in the community, to resume or continue their education.


  • Engages with the pregnant or parenting youth in the community on an outreach basis.
  • Assesses client’s readiness to return to an educational program or ability to maintain school involvement. Makes appropriate referrals.
  • Assists clients in the determination and attainment of goals. Acts as an advocate for the client, provides support throughout their involvement in an educational program and provides follow-up support to them upon leaving the program.  May accompany clients to appointments.
  • Maintain accurate client files. Ensures that all required documentation is complete and meets professional standards.  Completes reports and statistical gathering as required.
  • Conducts support and educational groups.
  • Plans and implements caregiver/parent educational opportunities. Helps plan and implement special events. 
  • Maintains liaison and good communication with community and other agencies. Engages in consultation and case planning with relevant service providers as appropriate.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of community resources and services. Keeps current on issues affecting young parents and trends in young parent programming. 
  • Participates in evaluating the effectiveness of the young parent program. Facilitates client participation in evaluating activities.  Provides suggestions to modify programs to the daycare Coordinator and/or Program Director.
  • Is knowledgeable of, and adheres to pertinent legislation regarding the protection of children.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information related to the organization’s clients and staff.
  • Promotes, markets and advertises program mandate to community partners.
  • Has knowledge and practical proficiency of social media platforms.
  • Performs other related duties as required.



Education, Training and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in the social sciences. A certificate in Early Childhood Education beneficial.
  • At least one year of previous work with youth in general or young parents. Experience in an early childhood environment beneficial.

  • Excellent ability to integrate child development theory and practice.
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with youth. Ability to establish caring and nurturing relationships with children.
  • Strong ability to research issues, information, find services and refer, if necessary.
  • Strong group facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in community development and organization.
  • Strong ability to work effectively with others, including both team members and other professionals.
  • Knowledge of licensing requirements and the commitment and ability to ensure compliance is necessary.
  • Well-developed oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good organization, time and general management skills.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical activity including walking, standing, bending, lifting children and housekeeping duties.


Additional Information:


  • The position requires some work outside of the normal office environment and travel.
  • The position requires the use of a vehicle.
  • A valid First Aid certificate is required.
  • Holding a valid class IV Driver’s license.
  • Food Safe certification is an asset.
  • As a condition of employment all employees must pass a Criminal Records check.
  • Flexible hours of work required, including evenings
