Purpose Secondary School has the following position available:

 

 

Position: Child and Youth Care Worker

 

Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday. 10 months per year     (September through June) commencing Monday, August 27th, 2018

 

Wage: Starting at $19.50

 

Job Summary:  The School Child and Youth Care Worker provides support to staff and students of Purpose Secondary School. This staff plays a support role in the classroom, out trips, and works closely with the Prep Program teacher, School Counsellor, and other members of the Special Needs Resource Team.

 

The Child and Youth Care Worker reports to the PREP Program teacher in the morning and a variety of other teachers in the afternoon, in accordance with courses requiring a second adult present for supervision.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with other school support staff: Principal, Vice Principals, School Counsellor
  • Take PREP Program student attendance and maintain accurate records; Make relevant phone calls to parents/guardians when PREP Program students are absent
  • Maintain PREP Program student files of those students who are on probation
  • Assist in the identification and development of “Special Needs” files
  • Serve as a member of the Special Needs Resource Team
  • Provide support to teaching staff in class and on out trips
  • Stand in for absent and/or late teachers as required
  • Assist in the organization of school extra-curricular activities
  • Assist in the supervision of the students on field trips and extra-curricular activities as required
  • Assist in the maintenance of the Student Job Board
  • Administer first aid and medication as required
  • Perform other related duties as required

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Certificate or degree in Youth and Child care or Youth Justice
  • Prefer a minimum of three years of experience working with “at-risk” youth
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, adolescent mental health and family issues

 

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to contribute strategically at integrated case management meetings
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, school, and social service professionals
  • Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to build rapport with youth
  • Good organization and time management skills

 

 

In addition, must be willing to obtain an Emergency First Aid Certificate
