POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Supervisor supervises work performed by facility maintenance staff necessary to maintain clean and sanitary conditions. Works with volunteers, guests and residents; Oversees safekeeping of keys used on for Seed vehicles, locking/unlocking areas to be cleaned. Assists the Director of Facilities in the development of the facility budget and operates within the budget with sensitivity to ministry cash flow. Coordinates assistance to other departments whenever needed and is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all Seed vehicles.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Building and Vehicle Maintenance;
  • Ensure that the facilities, vehicles and grounds are clean and maintained in safe working order by providing strong hands on direction and leadership of the Facility Staff, Volunteers, Fine-options and Guests; ensure all SEED vehicles are licensed;
  • Ensure that all walkways, sidewalks, parking lots, and entrances are cleaned and cleared of snow on all properties belonging to the Seed;
  • Carry out daily inspections of buildings, equipment and work carried out by facility maintenance staff;
  • Ensure all power equipment systems are serviced on a monthly basis;
  • In consultation with the Director, responsible for the hiring of full-time and part-time staff – in consultation with the Volunteer Department responsible for the selecting of, and working with volunteers;
  • To provide employee coaching and supervision, and to ensure proper training of staff and volunteers is taking place;
  • Ensuring the facilities are in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations;
  • Working with the Director of facilities and other departments for the betterment of facility staff in their efforts to improve their lives;
  • Ensuring that work orders are completed in a timely fashion;
  • Updating maintenance logs;
  • Working with outside contractors;
  • Abide with OH&S regulations;
  • Report any safety-related accidents or incidents;
  • Provide timely and accurate information upon request;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Renovation & Repairs

  • Obtaining estimates for work to be done in a timely fashion to ensure work is being done on time;
  • Coordinating work in progress and informing other department heads of work going on in their areas;
  • Ensuring accurate maintenance records are kept up to date.

Administration of department

  • Provide staff scheduling, and approve and monitor employee’s days off, as well as ensure that there is appropriate trained staff to oversee fine-options available;
  • Provide information and report problem areas to the Director and seek approval from the Director for major changes, additions and staffing issues;
  • Ensure that all employees directly responsible to the Facility Department are evaluated annually, and encourage ongoing meeting and discussion.

Volunteer Support

  • Provide clear and sensitive direction and leadership for volunteers in consultation with the Volunteer Department;
  • Provide coaching and encouragement, to ensure proper training for volunteers in consultation with the Volunteer Department and the Volunteer worker on the floor;
  • Make every effort to ensure that the volunteer experience is fulfilling and rewarding within the mission statement of The Mustard Seed;
  • Ensure that volunteer concerns and special contributions are relayed to the proper Director and the Volunteer Coordinator;

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Post – secondary education preferable;
  • Great leadership qualities;
  • Supervisory experience in building maintenance;
  • Highly organized and self-directed with a knowledge of WHMIS and OH & S standards;
  • Knowledge of building maintenance systems;
  • Minimum of one-year experience in custodial and/or other related work;
  • Must have janitorial experience including waxing, mopping, buffing, floor polishing and carpet cleaning;
  • Must have the ability to supervise staff and work well with people;
  • Class 5 driver’s license required;
  • Ability to multitask and to use hand tools and power tools;
  • Desire to work in a Christian environment is an asset;
  • Must be prepared to attend work related courses such as; first aid, WHMIS and equipment training.

 

OTHER INFORMATION

  • This includes some travel regarding picking up supplies, dropping off and picking up facility staff from and to various Seed locations;
  • There are some administration duties involved; input of time sheets, payroll entries, work orders, email and telephone;
  • Creating work schedules to ensure the buildings are properly monitored;
  • Must monitor workers to assure safety and proper upkeep of the buildings;
  • Must be able to work with the Director of Facilities in hiring, training, orientation and evaluate performance of new and existing employees;
  • Must be able to climb stairs and carry out building inspections on a daily basis.
  • Must be prepared to work indoors and outdoors.
  • Employment Security Check is required

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
