Peer Support Worker - Casual

 

The Intensive Case Management Team (ICMT) provides support and services for individuals with substance use, concurrent disorders and/or mental health issues and complex challenges related to health, homelessness and poverty.  Reporting to the Team Lead, the Peer Support Worker has lived experience, similar to ICMT clients being served, and acts as a resource to the team, and supports clients as identified in the care plan.

 

Compensation:  $18.00 to $19.56 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides support for ICMT clients, as identified in the care plan
  • Brings a voice and perspective of lived experience to the ICMT and community tables
  • Attend community drop-ins, as a way of developing relationships with potential and current ICMT clients
  • Provides support in psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery services

Qualifications, Experiences and Abilities:

  • Lived experience similar to ICMT clients being served and a willingness to identify as a peer
  • Training in Peer Support or Human Services Field, such as a certificate in Substance Use
  • Two years of recent, related experience working with an emphasis on mental health, addictions, homelessness and/or social services, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Housing First
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles and activities
  • Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, groups and other professionals
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
  • Use of personal vehicle with appropriate business class insurance is required
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Have completed, or be willing to complete the Take Home Naloxone training
  • Criminal Record Check is required

Additional Information:

  • This casual position (4-5 shifts/month) will require working outside office hours and office environment, depending on client availability or locations
  • Mileage is paid where driving for work performed is required
