Can you document and relay information to co-workers and supervisors for the purpose of keeping staff informed and the residents safe? 


Can you prepare, cook and serve meals?


Position:  Mental Health Worker


Organization:  The Kettle Friendship Society


Address:  Enhanced Housing-East 8th/Friendship Court & Triumph Apartments


Status:  Temporary P/T until August 1, 2019 or return of incumbent whichever comes first


Number of Positions:  1


Hours and Days:  30 hours each week: Friday & Saturday at East 8th/Friendship Court. Sunday & Monday at Triumph Apartments.  All shifts are 3 pm -11 pm


Salary & Compensation:  $20.46 per hour  + 4.6% on each hour worked in lieu of statutory holiday. 100% employer paid benefit package. 3 weeks vacation for Full-Time and pro-rated for Part-Time.




The Kettle Society supports people with mental illness to lead healthier lives by providing support services, advocacy, employment and mentoring and housing. We work to raise awareness of mental health issues, break down stigma and reduce barriers for people with mental illness. Our goal is to promote inclusion of people living with mental illness in all aspects of society.


Job Summary:

In accordance with The Kettle Society values, The Mental Health Worker is responsible for providing direction and support to apartment residents with daily social, emotional, and life skills assistance in line with established care plan procedures.



  • Certificate in Community Social Services – Mental Health (or related)
  • One-year experience in a mental health setting including community work experience and volunteer work (or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience)
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate (or equivalent)
  • Valid Food Safe Level 1 certificate

Abilities & Skills:

  • Ability to work with people with mental illness, hoarders, homeless at risk and addictions. 
  • Ability to work with bed bug protocol and assist tenants in management of pests. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others. 
  • Ability to organize and prioritize. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with tenants. 
  • Ability to observe and recognize changes in tenant.
  • Have an understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation and concurrent disorders including theories and methods.
  • Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills. 
  • Ability to operate related equipment. 
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
