WHAT YOU BRING

  • Undergraduate degree or a diploma in the field of occupational health and safety and a minimum of 5 years’ of experience as a health and safety professional in a strategic business advisor role, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Level 1 Occupational First Aid ticket or higher.
  • WHMIS training and certification.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation.
  • A strong commitment to excellence in customer service; excellent communication skills: oral, written, interpersonal.
  • Experience identifying needs, planning, and giving advice and guidance on initiatives that support strategic directions.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities; well-developed planning, coaching and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and/or database.

 

HERE’S WHAT WE CAN DO TOGETHER

The Health and Safety Specialist is the key point of contact for Agency leaders and employees regarding health and safety issues.   Working as part of the HR team, this role supports the Agency across diverse program areas providing strategic health, safety and wellness guidance, initiatives and advice. This includes the tracking and analysis of critical incidents. The position partners with leaders, providing proactive support and planning and visiting program sites to connect with staff and leaders and triage health, safety and wellness issues and queries. The position works collaboratively with co-workers and internal and external stakeholders to optimize and support the mental and physical health, safety and wellness of our staff, volunteers, contractors and clients.

 

YOUR KEY CONTRIBUTIONS

Health, Safety, and Wellness: Provides strategic and timely guidance and advice to leaders on health, safety, and wellness issues including risk assessments, policy interpretation and implementation, regulatory requirements, and staff training.

 

Engagement and Project Work: Undertakes health and safety projects which will support the Agency’s aims/strategies and/or improve the effectiveness of the teams. Facilitate the process of change by providing support and planning to leaders and understanding to employees in the area of health and safety.
