POSITION:     

Multicultural Victim Services Worker of Violence Prevention Programs

 

DEPARTMENT:

Specialized Programs, Family and Settlement Services

 

POSITION FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Coordinator of Violence Prevention Programs, the Multicultural Victim Services Worker provides direct services to clients, including: criminal justice information and support, safety planning, information and referrals, and emotional and practical support.  The Multicultural Victim Services Worker ensures that the services provided are sensitive to the social, cultural, linguistic and economic values of clients who are victims of crime.  It is important that the Multicultural Victim Services Worker has an understanding of the dynamics of gender-based violence and experiences of oppression/racism of immigrants, refugees and people of colour.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·     A bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field, or combination of relevant education, training and experience

·     3 to 4 years of experience working in the victim services/anti-violence sector as a frontline worker

·     Experience advocating with and on behalf of clients

·     Experience in providing public awareness presentations

·     Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds

·     Knowledge of issues and services relating to crime victimization; the anti-violence sector; trauma informed practice; justice systems; community resources, programs and services; social injustices that are faced by immigrant, refugees and visible minority population

·     Excellent interpersonal skills, advocacy skills, organizational skills and time management skills

·     Ability to be empathetic and sensitive

·     Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·     Flexibility/adaptability

·     High degree of self-awareness and commitment to self-care

·     Good communication skills in verbal and written English language

·     Proficiency with standard office equipment and software applications

 

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

·     Access to a vehicle

·     Additional languages an asset, in Vietnamese, Japanese or Korean

·     Experience working with the justice system

 

OTHER REQUIREMENT:

·     Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check

 

HOURS:

24 hours/week

 

   STARTING PAY:

$21.20 - $23.86/hr, depending on qualifications and experience

 

TERM:

Contract will end on March 31, 2019, with possibility of extension.
