The Mustard Seed provides basic services - food, clothing and housing, and support services – education and employment, to those living in poverty within Alberta.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Volunteer Services Coordinator works to onboard, establish and maintain long-term, program volunteers at our downtown campus. The role also recruits and maintains all of our resident/client volunteer teams in the various program areas. Lastly, it assists the Volunteer Services Manager and other program supervisors to create, establish and maintain new, seasonal and permanent volunteer programing. The ideal candidate is a positive, friendly person with proven customer service and professional administrative skills. This candidate must have a desire to serve our guests, support staff and build community.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help in the creation, planning and maintenance of volunteer roles;
  • Providing volunteers and staff with essential information regarding day to day program details;
  • Consistent improvement of volunteer processes including recruitment, engagement, and retention;
  • Guide and support staff in their supervision, evaluation and recognition of volunteers;
  • Assist program staff with holistic maintenance, training and appreciation of volunteers;
  • Recruit, support and maintain residents/clients in volunteer roles;
  • Create and steward outings and engagement activities on behalf of residents;
  • Foster community/partner relationships and create pathways for resident engagement;
  • Responding to volunteer inquiries via email and phone;
  • Daily maintenance of the volunteer database;
  • Other administrative duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A passion to be part of ending homelessness in Alberta
  • University Degree or equivalent work experience in a relevant field would be an asset (i.e. Human Resources, Administration, Volunteer Management, Customer Service, etc.)
  • Strong competency with computers, data management systems and experience in MS Office
  • Previous experience working with volunteers
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced role that involves multi-tasking and managing a diverse workload
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong skill in written and verbal communication
  • Excellent administration, time management and organizational skills
  • Previous experience working with a marginalized population, particularly the homeless considered an asset

 

OTHER INFORMATION

  • This position is located at The Downtown Calgary Mustard Seed location.
  • Full-time position – Monday to Friday; occasional evenings as required
  • This role will have significant people interaction, both with staff and volunteers, but will also involve considerable administrative work
  • Employment Security Check is required
  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to be in agreement and to sign our statement of faith
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
