Job Summary: Under the direction of the CEO, the Fund Development and Communications Officer is accountable for coordinating matters related to fundraising and communications across the organization. Additionally, the successful incumbent conducts effective community relations and public consultation programs and initiatives to ensure maximum awareness, understanding and acceptance by the community, partners, stakeholders, governments, regulatory agencies, interest groups and the public.


Scope: The Fund Development and Communication Officer leads communications initiatives to ensure maximum awareness and understanding by the organization and the general public. The Fund Development and Communication Officer leads the development of communications policies and standards and provides advice to PICS executives on a variety of complex and sensitive issues that are of interest to the media, stakeholders and the public at large. The incumbent also ensures all available opportunities for raising funds are successfully exploited and maintained, contributing to the financial viability and overall sustainability of the organization.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Develop and implement a fundraising plan for the organization which will achieve the goals for sustainable funding, the development of projects and delivery of core operations
  • To identify and develop suitable fundraising opportunities, new projects and funds
  • To cultivate and nurture successful and productive relationships with current and potential corporate/foundation sponsors and individual donors;
  • To accurately monitor fundraising progress and produce quality reports for internal and external parties when required;
  • To write compelling grant proposals and bids to corporate, foundation and government funders;
  • To network effectively and ensure PICS is maximizing opportunities for funding and development at all times;


Participates in the provision of effective strategic and financial planning.

  • Participates in the development of Business Plans for the organization including funding proposals.
  • Prepares cost and budget estimates for proposed communications initiatives.
  • Monitors emerging issues that may have significant implications or negative publicity for the Society, and advise the CEO and other key partners as appropriate.
  • Develops corporate positions and response options for consideration by the CEO on potentially controversial or sensitive issues.
  • Organizes effective community relations and public consultation programs and initiatives to ensure maximum awareness, understanding and acceptance by the community, partners, stakeholders, governments, regulatory agencies, interest groups and the public.
  • Provides communications advice to CEO and staff.
  • Undertakes Proposal Writing Projects for the organization when needed and support other departments with their proposals as required
  • Develop and build relations with different stakeholders in the community.

Communication responsibilities:

  • Develops communication strategies, plans and functions such as internet-based communications and social media.
  • Manages communication and website consultants.
  • Provides communication guidance and support to programs.
  • Provides advice to senior management and staff; ensures effective quality control; oversees the preparation of PICS’ publications, speeches, feature articles, website content and news releases; organizes special events and manages all advertising on behalf of PICS.
  • Ensures quality control with respect to issues such as brand management, writing and editing.
  • Recommends and supports the development, planning, monitoring, executive and communication of work by internal committees and project teams that impact external stakeholder.
  • Participates in an integrated approach for outreach activities so that members, partners and affiliates are engaged in projects that support the organization’s objectives.
  • Ensures that the quality and relevancy of information communicated through various internal touch points is continuously maintained.
  • Coordinates Society involvement in external conferences by developing abstract submissions, preparing presentations and working with staff to ensure quality control in the delivery.
  • Under the direction of the CEO, write, edit and enhance communications-related documentation as required with external stakeholders to ensure a consistent, concise platform of messaging is achieved.
  • Establish and monitor metrics for the measurement of outcomes and effectiveness of communications and initiatives.
  • Manage the Society’s website and Internal/External newsletter(s)
  • Monitor media for relevant articles and keep record of media clippings
  • Web site maintenance, administration and support
  • Coordinate the work of sub-contractors as required (printing company’s)
  • Ensure all media and website designs adhere to and evolve with the Society’s brand, establishing style guidelines and best practices
  • On-site document, including photographing and filming of Society’s events and functions.
  • Organizes Media events, appearances and other outbound and inbound communications.
  • Handle various social media platforms of the organization (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.)

    Education and Job Requirements:

  • University degree in a related field such as communications, public policy and public administration, or an equivalent combination of education and considerable related experience
  • Advanced training and courses in public, media relations and fundraising
  • Extensive experience working in a public relations communications environment, including previous experience working with the media and organizing fundraisers
  • Graphic design – diploma/certificate
  • Excellent consulting, writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills
  • Demonstrable social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge
  • Software skills: WordPress, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop
