Are you an empathic problem solver, expert listener, and natural teacher with a strong understanding of the challenges faced by family and friend caregivers? Family Caregivers of British Columbia (FCBC) is adding a maternity leave coverage Caregiver Support & Engagement Lead position to our dedicated team in Victoria, BC. The Caregiver Support & Engagement Lead role provides individualized support and resources, builds and maintains support groups, delivers training, and engages volunteers to grow the support network for caregivers across BC. This is a 12-month maternity leave cover, starting as a temporary position with the strong possibility of becoming permanent.


In our growing organization, the Caregiver Support & Engagement Lead role offers a dynamic opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the lives of caregivers and their families. The successful candidate will provide positive, goal-directed 1-1 empathic support and practical assistance to caregivers. No two caregivers face identical challenges, and the Caregiver Support & Engagement Lead will offer a tailored approach that connects caregivers with the tools they need to navigate their caregiving journey, and to invest in their own well-being as well as the person they care for.

 

Bringing a solid foundation in capacity building and community development, the Caregiver Support & Engagement Lead will build a provincial community of practice for caregiver support, focusing on the self-help, peer support group model, and using a strengths-based community asset lens. They will assist in the development of caregiver support groups and provide on-going training and resources for volunteer facilitators in both virtual and in person environments, with some travel required.


The ideal candidate will have:
• A bachelor’s degree in social services, health care or another related discipline (master’s degree an asset).
• 5 plus years’ experience supporting individuals and families in the fields of social, health and/or gerontology services.
• Facilitation and instruction experience, and knowledge of adult education principles.
• Awareness and knowledge of the challenges faced by family caregivers.
• Volunteer coordination experience.
• Technological competence, experience delivering webinar-style training an asset.
• Self-directed, with the ability to work independently, with a high tolerance for ambiguity.
• Project management and budget management experience an asset.
• A valid BC Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, and appropriate insurance.
• Ability to work from a home office with a flexible work schedule.

Family Caregivers of British Columbia is a not-for-profit charity dedicated to supporting those who care for an adult family member or friend due to disease, disability or frailty due to aging. Our services enable family caregivers to build skills, reduce stress, and enhance quality of life.
