Hours: Flexible Days/Dates. Hours are 8:30-3:30 Mon-Thurs

The Open Door Group Trades Employment Programs are specifically designed to support persons with multiple barriers to employment develop the skills and certificates needed to achieve employment in the construction trades.

 

Contract Summary:

Reporting to the Carpentry Program Manager, a Trades Facilitator is responsible for planning, preparing and implementing a 4-8 day theoretical and practical curriculum for their respective trades. This includes creating a list of materials required, implementing assessments, providing instruction and supporting participants in understanding their respective trade. As the program is offered a minimum of four times per year, the successful contractor may facilitate their trades class up to four times per year if they are available (approximately two weeks of work every three months).

 

We are looking for facilitators for the following trades:

  • Electrical
  • Trim Carpentry
  • Cabinet maker (CNC experience preferred)
  • Interior Finishing (Gypsum/Drywall, Painting, Flooring)
  • Exterior Finishing (Roofing, Siding, Stucco)

Responsibilities:

 

1.       Create, oversee and coordinate 4-8 day trade training curriculum consisting of both theoretical and hands on training

2.       Ensure curriculum is created in the required format as set out by Carpentry Program Manager

3.       Provide material and tool requirements for the length of their curriculum (tools for participants will be provided by Open Door Group)

4.       Ensures 4-8 day trade training curriculum operates in accordance with policies, procedures and standards

5.       Ensure WorkSafe BC regulations are adhered to.

6.       Ensure service and program expenditures operate within approved budgets as provided by Carpentry Program Manager

7.       Collaboratively, advises the Employment Facilitator and Carpentry Program manager on client progress in the class

8.       Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as reports on clients' skill levels and progress towards goals and objectives.

9.       Perform other duties as required.

  • Contribute to a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations
  • Work under the guidance of the agency and program policies and procedures, including the Mission, Vision and Values of Open Door Group

 Qualifications:

  • Criminal Record Check Required
  • Red Seal Inter-Provincial Certification preferred
  • Provincial Instructors Diploma preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ recent related experience in your trade

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of local labour market issues and trends in trades
  • Knowledge of trades educational methodologies
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills
  • Good knowledge of equity seeking populations an asset
