Job Title: Donor Relationship Lead                        

Location: Burnaby, BC                                                                      

Hours:  35 hrs/week Full-time                    

 

Children and youth waiting for a family, adoptive and foster families, birth families, adoptees, birth parents, adult foster children, professionals touched by adoption, people with connections to adoption are all part of our community.  Our community makes room in their homes, and in their hearts for children and youth and welcome opportunities to support AFABC. 

 

AFABC is building our Community Engagement team!

 

This team will support the development of communications, fundraising opportunities, relationships, and long term investors as our new way forward. You will bring experience in fundraising and support the expansion of our department’s fund development in all areas including donor development, cultivation, and stewardship.

 

You will build strategy, implement campaigns and events, engage our donors, create awareness, and raise critical funds for AFABC’s programs and services.

 

You are a fit if you can hit the ground running with your fundraising talents and wisdom, while helping to build all aspects of our fundraising team. Additionally, you have non-profit experience and can know the value of research, systems, and a strong communicator.

The Work:

 

You will have to bring your “go-getter” spirit and attend networking events, pick up the phone to connect with past members, reach out to new clients, engage fundraising volunteer leaders in focus or committee work --  all while strategizing with the fundraising team to execute newly developed revenue strategies.


For the first year, raising immediate funds through grants, foundations and corporate fundraising tasks will be a priority while building short term revenue strategies and system support direction with the fundraising team. Short term revenue strategies include launching an annual individual giving strategy, membership revenue plan, 3rd party fundraising plan, family fund strategy and friends of AFABC campaign.

 

Driving and paving the fundraising road at the same time excites you, as you see the future vision of financial sustainability unfold over the next 5-7 years.

 

The Responsibility:

 

  • Fundraising Planning, short term and long term to financial sustainability
  • Responsible for meeting and managing revenue and engagement goals with fundraising team
  • Strategize and support fundraising infrastructure, system, evaluation, reporting needs and growth
  • Revenue strategy development and execution:   Individual Donor Giving, Family Fund Giving, Membership, Grant/Foundation writing, Corporate giving, 3rd party fundraising
  • Long Term strategy development:  Major Gifts, Monthly Giving, Multi-Year Giving, Social Enterprise, Planned Giving
  • Lead Stewardship and Retention Strategy
  • Lead Prospect and Engagement Strategy
  • Campaign development and management
  • Volunteer and Leadership engagement and management

 

Educational/Professional Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Fundraising or Business) or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation an asset;

 

Experience

 

  • Minimum 5 years related experience, ideally in the not-for-profit sector in senior fundraiser role
  • Supervisory/Management experience of individuals and teams;
  • Developing and executing multi-faceted, team-based fundraising and public relations initiatives;
  • Overseeing operational budgets;
  • Public relations track record an asset

 

Knowledge:

  • Range of fundraising vehicles including Annual Giving, Membership Programs, Major Gift, Planned Giving, Third-Party Events, Direct Mail, etc.;
  • Knowledge of CRA rules and regulations governing Canadian charities;

 

 

Skills/Attitudes:

 

  • Organized with strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities;
  • Ability to both receive and give direction; and work independently and as part of a team and assume ownership in achieving outcomes;
  • Ability to link processes, procedures and outcomes towards the achievement of strategic priorities;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including public speaking/ presentations;
  • Creative, resourceful, innovating, cost-efficient and results-oriented;
  • Ability to confidently and diplomatically engage with stakeholders at all levels to develop and manage positive relationships with prospects, donors, senior level volunteers and influential community and corporate stakeholders;
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook) and comfort with data management systems
  • Driver’s license, access to vehicle, willingness to travel
  • Able and willing to work flexible hours as needed;
  • Recognizes the impact of one’s own culture on intercultural interactions and adapt to cultural differences. Has a strong understanding of one’s own culture and perspectives whilst able to accept cultural diversity and the multitude of approaches and range of ideas available. Applies learning in a manner that is respectful of and appropriate for the culture in question.

Expectation

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible)
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
